I recently purchased a 2005 gs 1200 with only one key so I phoned coopers bmw and priced a new key but I would have to wait till the logbook came .Meanwhile I put in the plastic key and started the bike as normall so I just wondered if anyone can tell me if the immobiliser can be bypassed as the chipped key was at least 20 yards away from the bike if so could I just go and get a standard key cut ?

Ah right I didn't realise cheers so I think I'll still go to bmw and get one ordered

I got one recently it was about £30 which I thought was reasonable really.
Was pleasantly surprised

My plastic key fell apart years ago. By the time I realised it, the chip was long gone. I'd feel jumpy without two proper keys.

With coopers make sure the bloody thing fits, my 1150 came with one key and they promised a spare, sent one it didn't fit , took my key in and they got all the details and supplied a second key , it didn't fit.
Went elsewhere and got a key and it was right first time.
In fact I have looked in my key cabinet and lo and behold they are still there two identical brand new keys, supplied by Coopers to fit what ??????? certainly not my bike

Bargain price, a new key for my BMW car was £130.00 that was with a 10% discount,
