Anyone been able to order a spare metal key for opening the panniers and removing panniers from R1300GSA ? I would like one rather than using the expensive key you get with the bike. I have had these in the past for R1200GSA and for R1250GSA. My local main dealer says not listed for the R1300GSA ?

Cant you just get one cut yourself? Not trying to be funny but they arent security coded are they? Or cant they cut those type of grooved keys? I also have a 1300 GSA and would be interested in the same

I think that is a possibility, also some online do a key from a digital photo, I will do that if I can’t get an official key from bmw dealer. In the past it’s only been about £20 from the dealer. 👍

It sounds like you’re answering your own question in around six minutes.

Note: A BMW dealership might ask to see your V5, even for a dumb / blank pannier key. This is in case you are a scrote.

I know, I visited a dealer with said V5 and ID. If possible I want a key from a bmw dealer. That’s why I am asking if anyone has had success. Before I take another route if required.

I got mine from key2code.co.uk, just email Gary with your key number and he will confirm with a price. Mine arrived within a few days. Does the luggage only, has no chip to start the bike. Cost for mine was 18.94 delivered and it is excellent quality.

Was that a key for a R1300GS or GSA ? As there is no number on my key or plastic wallet key.

Many High Street key cutters / locksmiths can copy a dumb key, sometimes using a number (coded into a box of widgets) or simply by tracing over the cutouts.

Alternatively, ring another BMW dealership to see if they too are unable or (more hopefully) able to supply a dumb pannier key for your bike.

just send a photo to the link above, which I have used also. They will soon tell you for no cost and give you a quote for the key. It is very rare for a bike maker to use a bespoke key design. For the R1200RS the blank was also used by Ducati as I searched the part no on the JMA branded blank after it arrived. I posted details in another thread years ago.

Yes, you can get one from BMW, but it seems that some dealers don't know how to order one for the R1300GS/GSA.
I'm sure it is just the same blank as used for the 12 series.
I got mine from Bowker's at Preston, but they no longer do Motorbikes, it cost £22.
However, you can get one made at online key cutters for about a tenner less by just sending a photo.

I've just checked my invoice and the part number and description for the key is 51 25 7688674, Key without transponder by code.

You should have a plastic tag in your service booklet wallet. That has the key number on it. I think he may also be able to do it from a photo. Mine was for a GS, not GSA

Trying to understand this. So you visited a dealer with your proper ID. Did you actually ask them to order a key?

Another vote for Gary at kay2code. I've bought non chipped keys of him for 3 of my bikes in the past so I could operate the luggage, satnav and seat locks without using the keyless fob and he was far cheaper than the dealers, easier to order and arrived quickly through the post.

I’ve ordered a key 🔑👍

Maybe a dumb question but I was checking all the paper work on my year old GSA and I don’t recall getting a second plastic fob for emergency starting. I checked all my instruction book with the BMW emergency breakdown cover and the book has all the bikes details filled in.
I do recall with my old 1250 I got an electric key but a small plastic one and a bar code with a K code on it.
Have I misplaced the plastic fob for emergency starting?
