many thanks in advance:thumby:

An NGK LMAR8D-J has a 14mm hex thingy.

Didn't take me long to find that using Google. ;)

You'll prolly be wanting a coil puller too.

thanks for that:thumby: but why do you feel the need to add a sarky comment about google and make yourself look like a **** in the process:blast

what is it with people today on forums, kind enough to give the answer to a question, but because there sat behind a keyboard its like a god given right to act the ****, when in the real world if they either havnt got the balls to say anything or they know full well it will result with them getting a punch on the nose, I just don't get it:blast:confused:

because in the time taken to ask the question on here you could have gooogled it yerself?,why are people so lazy as to ask questions that the computer they are sat in front of can easily give the answer to?
so if you want other people to do your research for you expect a bit of banter nest pas?

I'm sorry, I thought this was a bike specific forum where specific questions could be asked, I wasn't expecting somebody to google the answer for me, what I was actually hoping for was someone who knew there way round a wc gs/gsa mechanically, and who also knew one end of a spanner from the other to give me the answer, said type of person I would of thought would know this off the top of there head and in my opinion give me a better answer than google, so apolagies for being a lazy ****, also in my opinion sarky comments are not banter, its just pointless input from a keyboard warrior, banter I can give and take:D

I'm with the OP here and seeming as I (and others) didn't know the answer to this query, it's useful info for me too.
What's wrong with having a chat with (alleged) friendly, like minded people?
ANYONE can use search engines, we all do.
Sometimes it's nice to chat.
Too much....... 'didn't say please' .... 'didn't say thankyou'..... 'why not use google / search first'.....
But maybe I'm an alien.
Remember sitting at that last meeting/seminar/class/ speed awareness course?........ I don't want to ask a question, I might sound daft and it turns out everyone wanted to know the same?
Well it's getting like that on here, too many spouting....
Makes me consider not asking Q's here at all
maybe we don't really need the forum here anymore.....
Just use google .....:upyou

Hi ghost rider. In terms of the flats then the answer is indeed 14mm. More important is that someone with the knowledge might be able help on the depth required and perhaps a specific recommendation particularly if you are after a mobile kit for the lanes / touring. I'm afraid I don't know the answer but do know that the plugs sit some way down and you are likely to need at least a standard long reach but it may be specific. It usually is with these machines.

forums for technical help?,in days not so long ago you tried to sort a problem and maybe got stuck, forum tech advice became useful, but you had tried to fix it and tried to find out about the prob doing so research etc, everybody now seems to want their hand holding through all aspects of bike ownership being unable to purchase anything without the nod from the forum.not content with choosing an exhaust or beak extender or whatever they need people to post a thousand pictures to qualify there purchase, buy and fit what YOU want and fuck everyone else the general populous these days only seems to survive with massive doses of hand holding.(all imo obviously:rob)

I actually agree with what your saying in some ways, but on many forums especially on here nobody seems to be able to ask anything without some sarcastic fuck wanting to pipe in with partial help, and a sarky comment at the same time, people shouldn't have to put up with or accept it, not everyone is a computer whizz, horses for courses an all that, but specific forums are meant to be places of help, and genuine banter, as has already been said, when people such as above jump on and try to justify what goes on, all that will happen is in the end genuine people will go fuk this, forums are just full of knob heads, why would I want to associate myself with them pricks when I can use google, but with that attitude we all lose, because I for one would rather speak to like minded people like myself where I can get genuine knowledge and tips, because we can never know everything and we never stop learning in my opinion, everyday is a school day:thumby:

You're most welcome.

For the earlier twin cam models you need a slim walled socket to prevent it jamming in the recess, not sure if it is the same for the LC, but worth checking before you buy.

As a car mechanic of some 40 years (shock horror I must be old) I feel it would be best to rather than try to assemble a tool kit from recommendations, it would be much better to actually spend some time trying on a Sunday afternoon to remove said plug. That way as others have said you may want a thin wall or double hex socket. Also it can be quite a shock trying to work on your bike outside at the point of breakdown, but if you are faced with that, you know exactly what to do and how. Also not ALL the stuff you read on Google is correct (another shock horror). I think that also applies to any tools required to carry with you. At my place of work I have several toolboxes filled with tens of thousands of ££££ worth of mainly snap on tools, some are used every day and others are now redundant but out on the road I don't have that luxury so I make sure all my tools work (ooeer missus)
just my five bob

Beat me to it. Defo thin walled on the older engines, dont ask me how I know..., would be interested to know for defo about the lc engine rather than getting a socket stuck or taking some paint off..

thanks for some positive input lads, when I said I was putting together a toolkit what I spose I should of said was I was having a sort out really, what I mean by that is, going thru the tools I used to carry on me old GSA(oil cooled) in order to put em in me touratwat toolbox iv just fitted on me water pumper GSA, most of the tools with the exception of a couple seem to be able to do the same job, but without pulling a coil out, I wasn't quite sure about the WC gs/gsa plug sizes etc, Ive already got a 14mm thin wall deep socket and extensions I used to carry on the old bike, so hopefully it will fit the new bike.

The below tool list covers the different models of the GS and the 'W' refers to the LC version.

Make sure you can check the external diameter isn't too big at time of purchase, some fit some don't.

A fool can ask a question that a thousand wise men cannot answer; or no such thing as a stupid question only a stupid answer !

We all have off days.

Yes you need a thin wall 14mm socket best to get a magnetic one as it then also helps removal.

There that was easy and simple with no sarky crap..
