This evening I was planning to check the valves and carry out an oil change before my trip to Slovenia in a couple of weeks.

All was going well until I started to remove the spark plugs to ease the turning over of the engine.

The socket slid on to the left side spark plug however as I started undoing, it became tighter & tighter in the bore until it was almost at the point of seizing. After much cursing I managed to remove it though there is no way I'm risking using the same plug socket again. There seems to be a slight lip about halfway down both plug bores which is preventing the socket reaching the plug

I can get my Bro in Law to turn down the external diameter, but he's away for 2 weeks and I could do with the bike on the road before then.

So does anyone know where I could buy or borrow a thin walled plug socket.

Thanks

Baz

cheers

i'll give Bahnstormer a shout in the morning

How about removing the valve gear cover. I assume you would get good access to the plugs then, if it can be done leaving the plug in of course!

If you only need to remove the plugs to help in turning the engine over, try removing the secondary plugs (the ones underneath the cylinders).

Orederd a plug Socket from Bahnstormer @£12 delivered.

Can you post what the OSD is please so I can shop around for a suitable plug spanner.
Thanks

Halfords sell a 3/8" thin walled spark plug socket that fits the BMW engine.

I am afraid I do not know the code, but it is about 10" long and if I remember was about GBP10
