After the engine rebuilt the engine now starts miserablement from one cylinder and the other only starts very badly!

I put some new spark plugs and after some kms I remove them. One is partially dirty with carbon deposits and the other is completely black

Any thoughts?

I think that the fuel consumption is also higher

(I still didn’t clean and adjust the carbs but it was working much better before the rebuilt)

Could the carbon deposits and black be too rich a mixture. What about timing, is the spark arriving too late and hence the mixture not burning correctly. Might be worth checking the timing with a timing gun?

I NEVER use the choke, even in the coldest days.

If I push the choke the engine will never start.

Sounds like it's running too rich and the carbs are at least out of balance. It would surly be well worth getting the carbs fully overhauled and then properly balanced.

Also check your ignition timing, and all the relative electrical connections.
