Guys I`ve had a huuuuge London BMW dealer contact me to say there has been a lot of recent thefts of GS LC`s (inc the GSA). Seemingly the lowlife scum are bashing up under the rear mudguard and/or ripping the seat off, getting at the module and disconnecting it allowing them to steal the bike (dunno if they are using a plug in to get the bike started/over ride the immobiliser?)

There is a possibility that a plate can be made which will be much stronger than the plastic mudguard (I`ve already designed a 2mm thick ss plate to protect access from the top) and protect access from the bottom.

Has anyone got any input on this?

Have you any details?

This is where seemingly they are punching up through the weak plastic and getting to the module - I was thinking of putting steel plate here.....

This is the steel plate I use to cover access to the module - it can be held in with anti theft fasteners - it does mean you can't carry a pillion but it depends if you want to keep your bike I guess

You lose pillion use, To gain what ! They still break the steering lock n tug it away with a bod on a scoot.

Isn't that the tyre pressure control module?

Dunno could well be - it does provide two good front plate location points for the plate to extend back through and over the plastic wheelarch - mine hasn`t got one but does the alarm module sit somewhere in that space, mebbe towards the rear?

I`ve had some clarification from the dealer - its the alarm module that sits right at the back of the space. It seems they are getting access either up through the bottom or from the top (bottom seems to be the favourite as its only shielded by a plastic plate).

They then disconnect the alarm and nick the bike. It`s then dumped somewhere for a few days to see if it has a tracker on it, if no one turns up for it they then break it up for ebay spares.

The dealer says the Met Police have said there`s a 44% increase in GS thefts..................

It will only be a matter of time that the cost for insuring the bike will rocket up... thus putting prospective buyers off, then sales will suffer,.....Being a tight Jock, I feel that BMW need to stand up to the mark, and look at ways to offer better protection for their bikes for their new production models. Once this has been designed they should then arrange recalls for machines as far back as , say 2010. I must admit I was surprised when I bought my 2015 model it at least didn't have an immobiliser . There isn't even any point in having an alarm it would appear, seeing that it is easily disarmed All this electronic wizardry and no fecking immobiliser ..?????? I wold rather have an immobiliser than the pro-assist gear shift for instance...

Ah, I thought so - I just felt I should have given the benefit of the doubt. Thanks for putting us right fella!
