I've been pretty cheesed off about trying to get an insurance quote from SPC as I've written in several threads.

Today at 0945 I answered a call from Christine the insurance lady who wanted to know how much my the insurers of my Blackbird were gonna have to stump up for my accident in June. They're only taking two years of my five year NCB away.

LO and behold, an e-mail arrived this afternoon at 1247 with a quote of £196.00 for fullt comprehensive cover.

I'd had quotes from Carol Nash (my current broker of £550) and three others all in the £500-£700 region. So, as you might imagine I'm going to phone them tomorrow or even drive over if it's not peeing down and sign up on the spot.

I'm still less than impressed with the poor communications and the length of time it's taken to sort out, but at least it's a happy ending. I've taken the time to write a reasoned letter to the MD so perhaps they can make things better in future.

It took four months last year after coughing up the cash to getting the certificate, and that time included filling all the forms in again and trying to prove NCB.... whether it was SPC or BMW Insurance I have no idea. They were cheaper though than anyone apart from Benetss. But it was a fiver and I don't have Bennetts huge compulsory excess!

This year, renewal as smooth as the proverbial........

BMW insurance is 'run' by Devitts and that sort of thing is par for the course for them (I've had run ins with them about 3 times now because they hide under so many different names).

Devitts have made it above estate agents on my list of people to put up against the wall come the revolution, and that's no mean feat.

But it appears you have to go thtough the BMW dealers to get the BMW prices - when I was shopping around for insurance I spoke to Devitt and even after telling them I had been referred to them by BMW they still gave me a quote that was over double the BMW price.

By contrast to SPC, Southport Superbikes promised to phone me with a quote the next day, and they did.

Interesting.

On the other hand, Devitt stated there would be a charge for changing my address details, then refunded me a different amount. I honestly think you could call them up 10 times and get 12 different quotes from the same information.

I use Coopers in Reading to broker the very competitive Devitt scheme, and the impression I get is that any delays are due to Devitt and not Coopers. Devitt takes ages to send the paperwork.
