I've been given a PC and a telly with it to use as a monitor. They are connected with a cable with multi-pin connectors with at a guess ten pins, the connectors are blue plastic and have two long screws at each end to screw them into the jacks. The telly is an LG M2452D and also has Audio coaxial connector sockets, one Red and one White, so I've got myself a lead with plugs to match these sockets at the telly end and at the PC end it has a 3.5mm plug which goes into the sound card.

I can't get the speakers to work.

If I plug in earphones into the 3.5mm (green) socket on the PC I can hear the audio.

What's the probable reason that I can't hear anything via the speakers?

Is the audio on the same input as the pc? You might find the audio is connected to a scart input or something like that. The blue video connector is vga by the way.

Umm, not sure what you mean, sorry.

There is a scart socket on the telly but not on the PC.
The tv has various AV inputs, vga, scart and probably some others like a TV antenna. Each input will have its own set of audio inputs or even be built into the one plug. Your coaxial inputs need to be on the same setting as the vga or you won't get any sound. Play something on the pc and swap inputs to see if you hear the sound. If you do then your coaxial inputs are useless if you want to watch the pc.

I selected "Input" on the front of the telly and then changed the selection from RGB to AV2, I could hear the sound loud and clear, but without the video. (I mean with no picture)

I hate to say this but I've got an early start tomorrow so I'll have to leave it for now, a shame because there are so many people 'on board' and helping out, but it does look we're making progress and it's very encouraging, it seems its a matter of setting it up properly and that the sound card and the speakers are all OK.

Thank you and good night. :beerjug:

Hi, I'm back. After looking once again at the TV's manual (thank you Noddy made me :)) it seems that I need an audio cord, the one with a 3.5mm plug at each end. I can't help wondering though if it really will work, after all, the other audio cord I got- the one with the 3.5 plug and the red and the white coaxial plugs- didn't. Ah well, it'll only be two or three quid so what the hell, he who dares wins, innit? :)

Thank you all, I'll let you know how it goes.

Sorted! Bought a 3.5mm audio cable yesterday and used that along with the VGA cable. Annoyingly simple, I still can't understand why it didn't work with the red and white coa-ax to 3.5mm lead but did with the 3.5/3.5 lead. Ho hum, all is well so thank you all.
