Hi all, was riding thro (southbound from Hartside cafe -Devils Bridge) Shap village yesterday(monday) at 30mph because I dont belive in speeding in villages and there was a speed camera van "working" there, I have queried with Cumbria Safety Partnership why their are NO signs warning motorists? their responce , well its a "community concern site" so needs no signs would ya believe! I have asked for a list for the community concerns+ KSI numbers for the village, lets see what happens, I,ve also asked why its not on their website if the roads so dangerous. I,ll let ya know,

Surely 30mph villages on otherwise fast roads are one of the few places that speed cameras can be justified? If I lived in such place I'd probably be annoyed by the large number of people who don't bother slowing down for what is after all a very reasonable length of 30 limit.

Agree with you totally about not speeding in villages :)

Also worth noting that in Newbury they used to have a nice friendly smilie face/sad face board (depending on your speed) stood out beside a van, but today I noticed the new van now has scameras :( no more friendly face in newbury :nenau

Shep

I was working in the area recently and was stopping at Shap Chippy for dinner :thumb

IMO if you speed through that village you deserve all you get, if everybody did like you and slowed down to go through the village (and any like it) then warning sign or not no problem
