Hi...

On the ride into work this morning, as I braked for the speed cam outside the Wallasey tunnel, I noticed the needle seemed to jump up a little, while decelerating...(I wasn't throwing out anchors and stuff...just slowing from tunnel speed,40 to 30 as usual)...didn't pay much mind to it...

UNTILL...

a mile or so along my commute, I noticed the speedo and what it was doing.

Accellerating from lights___________________________needle moves slowly toward 10mph

reaching cummute speed down dock road (40ish)______needle slips back to 0mph

this went on for a bit, and now the needle doesn't move at all :(

Anybody had anything like this?:confused::confused:

Could it just be a bit of dirt on the pickup at the back wheel?

I did stop and have a look at one point, but nothing visibly untoward

Any info would be great....

I'm thinking about starting a new thread "me n the Dak...the Honeymoon is over" :handbag

Probably the sensor gap is too wide (or too tight). Check for wear aswell. Any worn plastic can be made up with silica sealant (WHY).

I'd start by checking that the battery terminals are tight. That cures a lot of strange problems with electrickery with the 650s.

Failing that, when I replaced the pickup wire & sensor on my 2001 GS (ex off road school :augie) the speedo worked properly again.

thanks for the pointers fellas...

Here's a couple of other things.....

Odo didn't change from reading 76.7 for most of the next 20 miles to work (although I ddin't keep tabs on it all the way.

On way home, somewhere, it moved to 70.0 I noticed this in Crosby, about 15 miles from work...thats about 35 miles travelled...didn't notice final reading at home...but was still at 70.0 in Liverpool.

Idle has gone up to just under 2000 rpm...was only 1500 (normal) yesterday...but not sure when it changed today...

I tried a quick "reset" thingy at the lights...shut off ignition, turned it on...twisted throttle 3 times...switched off...fired it up and still idling 2k rpm... Did I miss something on the reset operation? It's something I read about here somewhere...

Will go n have a look after I've eaten something!

Cheers fellas

Do you mean the plastic on the pick up, or on the rotor part...the rotor looked OK when I checked this morning...but was only a quick shufty

Hi Axe I have had similar problems with my 01 Dakar and have found that by resting the trip meter it cures the problem.

May or may not work for you but got to be worth a try.

Cheers Tom
