The speedo went tits up on the way to work this morning, I will have to have a look at it tonight, how do you get at the back of the speedo itself? Just in case the broken bit of cable does not fall out

before takeing the clocks apart, it may be a good idea to have a look inside the speedo drive unit. It is on the left hand side of the front fork, on the spindle. If you take the front wheel off you can get right at it. My speedo cable broke here, BMW fixed it under warranty, the BM mechanic told me that this is where they normally break. If you want to get in the clocks, take the screen off, and then it's pretty stright forwards. but tricky to get back together . hope you get it fixed.

Just had a look duing lunch time, the cable has broken about
1.5" up from the drive unit.

1. Can you get just the inner rather than the whole thing.

2. If just the inner is available can it be fed in from the bottom without disassembling all of it?

You have to get the whole cable but they only cost a tenner. It is a fiddle getting the speedo end of the cable screwed on though.
