Speedo out 10%? Total mileage out 10%??

Just a thought. I remember earlier threads......and now timolgras reminded me ....that the speedo reads approx. 10% to high [actual 50 is about 55 indicated].

THEREFORE 12,000 miles INDICATED is actually only 10,800 on the engine??
80,000 shown is actual 72,000.....8k difference..... hmmm.

Hmmm is this a B.*.W. ploy to get us in to buy a service sooner than needed....wouldn't put it past them!!!

Any one recall the thread about fitting one from a different model that made it more accurate?? Was it the RT one?

I seem to remember that there are 2 different ratios for theR1100R. 3.75:1 seems to ring a bell as the correct one. Anyone remember if that is correct

This is the one you want, Part # 62122306532, I think its off an R1100R, its a 17" wheel anyway and its within 2%, The ratio is 2.87 : 1 altough it says 2.9 on the drive.

I complained and BMW replaced mine under warranty, the proof was I have BMW satnav so it was either the speedo or the satnav that was out.

it is marked 2.9

you probably have one marked 3:1

And yes you have done less miles than indicated - and is it a ploy ? well err err yeah I guess you could say that -

or maybe they have adjusted service intervals by 10% nah maybe not.

Yes its a lot better, still a bit fast but less than 2%.

70 mph on the dial is 68.7 on the satnav, more importantly 30mph on the dial is 29.3 on the satnav, before it was nearly 40 on the dial to achieve 33mph and my observer was concerned I wasn't making proper progress, I had 35 on the dial, he had 27 and his was right.
