Spent most of the day waiting for the AA with a dead bike.

Took my 2004 Rockster trike for a ride bumble only 50 miles but it was hot. Stopped at the cafe for lunch. Bike refused to start, kept trying until the battery died. Totally dead, not a cough. Many hours later I’m back home and bike is on a charger. What do I try tomorrow morning? I guess drop a plug and check for sparks. Any other suggestions?

I’d put a multimeter on the battery as you crank it.

It’ll show if it’s got a large drain on starting.

Have a look at you tube plenty of videos there.

I’d start simple, different battery.

Good luck

So.. it sparks, turns over slowly dropping down to 7 volts…starter motor gets very hot very quickly, so phoned Motorworks and exchange recon Valero should be with me by Monday. I think that it’s the starter motor is a reasonable diagnosis.

Starter motor already dispatched. That’s quick. Battery is on charge, I’ll give it another few hours then take it off charge and check the state of charge in a couple of days time

Buy yourself a Noco jump starter while you’re at it. They don’t take up much room.
I always carry one with me in the top box. I’ve fitted a jump start lead directly to the battery so it would take seconds to get it out and plug it in.
I’ve only managed to bump start it once in 3rd gear downhill.

same here, jump starters are superb, parked my xt1200 over night in germany last year turned the key to far it was parked up all night with rear light on battery dead dead plugged the jumper into the lead thats attached to battery bang fired first time

Many modern vehicles will not bump start if the battery is very flat.

A basic jump starter, is (just about) the only method. That it (nor the vehicle) will then restore a truly dead battery, is another matter entirely. If anyone even suspects that their battery is dying, then buy a new one. Gambling on a suspect battery, is most often a false economy.

:beerjug:

PS Given the amount of stuff that some bods attach directly to their battery, because it’s easy. It’s surprising how long some batteries last, given the sometimes poor state of the mass of spaghetti coming off the battery terminals.

I had now 2 powerful battery packs just dying on me… last was a NocoGB45…
Never once used it…if you inquire they are unable to repair and obviously out of warranty..
Wasted money

I’ve done the same, together with the battery charger in the garage that fits to the same pigtail.

Would you have been happier if your vehicle’s battery had died and the jump stater called into service?
Got a jump lead that fits to the GS and had to use it once when a friendly chap on a KT!M supported me with juice….
Easy….
Whenever I needed a booster pack it either wasn’t charged fully or as I said 2 expensive packs just died a silent death .
Matter of fact, just checked there is a guy on eBay who offers a repair for Nocos…I am thinking about it as the unit was close to£250 and still looks like new.
PITA?..:)
