SPIII 'Can't find device'

90% of the time my PC can't find the SPIII when connected via the serial port. Does anybody else have similar problems?

I usually end up wiggling all leads and connections to see if they are the cause. Eventually usually after a reboot it finds it!

I see Beta Mapsource 6.5 mentions this in the list of patches!

Will wait for 6.5 release though before trying it, since last Beta I tried didn't work!

Had exactly the same problem with my SP3, never quite figured out what the problem was but suspect the drivers were to blame. Deleted the originals and reloaded an update that was on the garmin site. Shortly afterwards upgraded to a 2610 so not sure that I completey solved the problem. It could have been just rebooting the system as you have found.

If you have a Firewall running, a digital camera software program and definately an MP3 player software package then check they are not trying to grab the port that the SP111 is trying to use. Also if you are running any IPAQ or HP software for shared device thro the port you will never have a result. Make sure that all devices that are using that port are disabled.

Try initializing the "auto-detect" feature. Also, make sure the batteries in the unit are fully charged.
