Knowing that many of you like to hear of a deal when its floating around, I hear today that GPS Warehouse (www.gpsw.co.uk) is offering to the first, 20 takers ..

StreetPilot III GPS with RAM-B-149Z-G1 mount and BEC01 power lead for £149.99 inc VAT, excl delivery

.. or ...

StreetPilot III GPS with RAM-B-149Z-G1 mount and CLC01B power lead with BMW plug for £152.99 inc VAT, excl delivery

I hear these are new units and come with Garmin warranty, but check with gps warehouse (and not me). When they have gone .. they've gone !.

RAM-man, thanks for the heads-up on this offer. :thumb I ordered one over Easter and it arrived the next week. They are reconditioned units, but I couldn't tell the difference from new. It looked seemed new. Certainly cheaper than the Quest I didn't get from Halfords (damn!) even if it is a little larger. It came with City Navigator v7, I don't know if I can update to v8, but v7 is better than v5 I was using with my GPS V.

£150 would have been a bargin, but with a mount and a power-cable as well, it is a good deal (undercuts some listed on Ebay).

I relegate the GPS V for use on my Guzzi and local (with 16MB worth of maps from my home) use.

There may be some more SPIII up for grabs as I have been ask to get more RAM-B-149Z-G1 mounts ready, so a slight delay of a few days, I predict.

V7 maybe all you get with a refurbished model... i don't know :nenau

Hi Tuned,

Is it not so .... V7 is OK for existing SPIII memory card (128MB), anyone going onto V8 release will need to replace the 'Garmin' memory card (256MB) ?

The 128 MB card will work fine also with V8 but the V8 map segments are bigger than in V7 so it sometimes may be difficult with V8 to select exactly the areas of interest and fit them into 128MB.

Don't worry too much about that. After upgrading to V8 you still have access to V7 so you can use V7 when you are short of memory.

My recommendation is to not buy 256 MB cards to the SP3. If you need this much memory you should consider buying a more modern unit. Buing a SP3 for £150.- and using it as is gives a good value for the money but further investments are probably not a good idea.

I have just ordered one of these and am expecting delivery tomorrow hopefully. Can someone give me an idea of what 128mb will provide - eg is it enough to fit France from Le Havre right down to Nice? I didn't really think about what I wanted, figuring that if I hung around too long I'd miss out on the deal like I missed out on a Quest. Is it going to give me, for example, the whole of Dorset on the card. Will it tell me where to find petrol for less than 95p a litre........

128mb gets you the whole of UK and Europe. Probably more, but that's all the mapping I have. I know, surprised me too.

Not a hope re. petrol though.

No point arguing it as I've just been told they've all gone anyway.

Bought one

I couldn't resist any longer and bought one, arrived 24 hours later.
It is missing the bike mount but thanks to Ram-man, I have found that this is to follow. :clap
By the time that arrives I might have worked out how to use it
Thanks Ram-man.

Same here - mine arrived yesterday, but no mount was included.

A phone call to GPSW uncovered that more mounts are expected shortly.

However, that mapsource disk is an arse!! I had all sorts of problems trying to unlock the software - I kept getting an error message saying that the unlockwizard registry could not be found.

I tried installing the software on 2 different PC's but had the same result each time.

I ended up unlocking via the web and installing a new version of the mapsource software (not the V8 maps though) via the garmin website - took a couple of hours of fannying around though.

Seems to be working now :thumb

I agree! I support, over the phone, 1-2 persons per week with the unlock procedure. The "wizard" that start automatically is indeed a pain in the arse. :spitfire

What i help people with is to give the right 4-5 answers (!) that kills the wizard and let them retreive & install the 25 character code manually.
