SPIII GPS for £150 !!

My SPIII arrived yesterday afternoon (sans RAM mount), I had it all working/installed/unlocked a couple of hours later.

The unit is an upgrade from my gpsIII+, I already had the latest mapsource installed (6.10.x) so the SPIII City Nav was an upgrade install of that, on my ancient w2K laptop - The unlock wizard worked perfectly - which makes me think XP may be an issue in some people's problems.

Want a 256mb card? I found this one....

One's on it's way as we speak :)

Even using v7 City Nav, the entire UK is something like 160mb of data.

Ok, more RAM-B-149Z-G1 mounts are due .. in fact they're in UK, just awaiting customs clearance and delivery to my door. I have moved to using Air Canada and feck to BA (cos the cargo unit is run like a union closed shop filled with jobsworth's .. you ain't my favourite airline ).

Since GSer's are sorted, the Honda boys want something, so FYI there will be an option for Goldwing and Pan ST's riders using a RAM-B-174-G1 with SPIII and BEC01.

RAM Man, if I may ask a Honda question :)

A friend just bought one of those SP3s and is wanting to mount it on his VFR750. Do you know of any existing solution he could use? Main problem seems to be finding a place on the bike to attached a RAM ball, the cockpit is all plastic and the handlebars are "clip on" style with no space for a U mount, as far as I can see.

Cheers for any advice :)

Hi Mouse,

A question from the rising sun side :D

The usual *trick* on a vfr is to use the U-bolt (RAM-B-149Z) onto the tank bolts and build up from there, and with a tank bag fitted add RAM-B-230 and RAM-B-201-A. Posted in the RAM UK picture gallery are some Honda vfr reviews, so your *friend* can view. Otherwise its RAM-B-174 on to the handlebar clamp (on the grip sides).

Cheers,

RAM-man

No point arguing it as I've just been told they've all gone anyway.

Nope, just ordered one this morning and it has been dispatched. So if you're interested, it might be worth trying them again.

I'm already sorted but my brother got one yesterday.

Was the argument about how much fits on 128mb card ever resolved ? ;)

Steve / RAM-man

Thanks for this tip-off. I sent an email to my Luddite mate Wednesday, he ordered it that night and received it this morning :thumb

I suppose I will be his help desk for the next week or so, but hey, that's the price you pay for dragging people kicking and screaming into the 21st century :D

Cheers again

Adam :)

If anyone is looking for a Touratech cradle for the SP111, I have one for sale, (and a motorcycle power lead).

If anyone else is having problems with Mapsource and the unlock codes, complete installation and dump the unlock wizard.

Then go to garmin.com and download and install the latest Mapsource update after which you can happily enter the unlock code using utilities, unlock code.

The helpdesk is busy already

Just a quick 'n' polite enquiry for an update re: when the RAM mounts are likely to get to us customers :)

I'm itching to try out the SPIII on the bike!

Impatience rules!

128mb card fits most of UK on less the top of scotland thats it no more
V7 Mapsource

Does anyone know if the whole of the UK would fit onto the 128 card without the London map(s) being loaded? Or is it not possible to programme the SPIII like this?

I know what's going to happen. I'm going to take so long deciding whether to get one of these that they will sell out. ;)

Help I cannot seem to put in the unlock codes....it comes up with a message saying there is a problem with the unlock wizard registry despite trying to re install.

How do I install the mapsource software without the unlock wizard and go to the garmin webpage to install?

What is the link?

Thanks in anticipation.

This was the answer I had.

Thank you for contacting Garmin Europe
Thank you for contacting Garmin Europe Support.
The error message that you received is due to a directory conflict in your
PC. The best way to correct this error is to uninstall/reinstall MapSource.
1. Go to the start menu in windows
2. Select the settings and then select the control panel.
3. In the control panel double click on the icon for ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS.
4. Select MapSource in the uninstall window. The software will ask to if you
wish to uninstall all the components, answer YES to this option.
5. Select the Start key to the run option. In the run window type in <
regedit > and enter. In the registry editor, you need to be very careful and
please follow these steps precisely.
a. Select the (+) next to the folder stating HKEY_CURRENT_USER
b. In this view select the (+) next to SOFTWARE, when you click on this it
will open your registry further.
c. In the SOFTWARE view you will see a series of folders, one will be
GARMIN. Highlight the word GARMIN and press the delete key. It will ask for
confirmation of deletion. Make sure that the word GARMIN is the only key
highlighted. Press on the (-) signs to contract the expansion.
d. Repeat the same process for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. It may not be in this
registry.
6. Shut down your system as normal and then let the system set for about 30
seconds and then start up your computer.
7. Reinstall the software. It will ask for the destination folder, the
default setting being C:\Program Files and so forth. Click on the browse
option and type in for the
destination folder. C:\Garmin. This folder will not exist, but the option to
create it will follow. Select OK.
8. Reboot after finishing your installation allowing the software to rest in
the destination folder.
9. After you reinstall, I recommend that you upgrade your operating software
to the latest version of the MapSource operating system.
Following are the steps to update MapSource on your computer:
http://www.garmin.com/support/download.jsp
The list is in alphabetical order. Go to the M's, you will see MapSource
x.xx. Please click on the MapSource and you will be taken to a License
agreement page. Once you have read and agreed to the agreement you may
select that you do agree and then you will be taken to the next page.
The next page will have the word download on the screen and x.xx MB. Once
you click on this it will begin trying to download the file. Please save it
to the DESKTOP. Once you have completed downloading the upgrade you will
need to run the program.
Please make sure you have closed out the MapSource program. If it is running
the update will not work correctly.
The file should be on your desktop as Mapsource_xxx.exe. Then please
double-click on the file name of Mapsource_xxx.exe and the program will
begin to install on to your computer.
Once it is completed you can go back and check by going into MapSource and
then click on the help and then the about MapSource.
** NOTE... to check the version of Map Source you are running or to verify
the update was complete...in Map Source, click on HELP and ABOUT MAP SOURCE,
this will display the version below the Map Source title. **
I would also recommend downloading a new copy of the Map Source manual from
our website at -->>

Hew...........Thanks it works at last.............All I need now it to figure out how to use it and fit the unit to the ram mount... Oh and plan my route for Spain.....
Thanks for your help :thumb
