I've just registered for an off road trip to Morocco. I predict a few spills so want to protect the bike. I am looking at engine bars and body bars from Touratech or Motech, as well as headlamp cover.
Which one is best? Others to consider?
Are they easy to fit?
Any other protective or practical equipment I should fit?

I also have the BMW paniers. I now realise that this was not a smart choice as they seem fragile and not practical with their side loading. Do other brands fit the BMW paniers frame? Which ones do you recommend?

Any one with a general kit list for such a trip (from passport, tools, oil to number of T-shirts)?

Great and very hepful forum. Thanks - Hugo

hepco & becker engine guards are the ones to go for. They also do tank guards but these are mainly cosmetic due to the mounting points involved

I'd recommend a full length bash plate. On our trip in November 2007 I was aware of my Wunderlich plate touching down a few times, and quite hard a few of those:eek

Crash bars make sense, as do cylinder head protectors, although we all survived without the latter..

If you are interested, my Wunderlich bash plate is available, fits R1200GS with "curved" centre stand. I took it off before upgrading to my '08 GSA, which it does not fit. It carries a few marks from the above, but is sound, no cracks and has full fitting kit, £75.00 posted to the UK.

And I'd say they're grossly over-priced. £36.00 for a Touratech shaft protector...!?!?!?

I've got this one.....

....£14.00 posted.

I'd also suggest the crash bobbins for the front axle.....
