I have had my old nail a couple of years now, and know nothing of its service history, so this spring I would like to get the splines checked and greased, now I try to do as much work as I can on my bike, but as I have to do it all out on the road outside my house, some jobs need to be done by others.

So who is my best bet to have the work done, to the west of London, along the M4?

Spline lube isn't too difficult a job to do. You don't need to remover the gearbox, just slide it back a little. A few hours on a day with good weather and you'll be fine. A clutch change is a bigger job of course. Don't just assume that it needs to be done though. Check wear first to make sure it needs doing.

Not a bad job at all on a mono. as Wanderer sez...
I use GRAPHOGEN on the splines, in fact I use Graphogen for Everything from Crank bearings to twistgrip throttle gears ............

Steptoe's your man Kev. He may still have his loan bike so you can make a day of it.

thank you all...

I must get Steptoes contact details.. also the Wee-Kend, that is an idea, but I had another plan for then:augie

Proff! Where do you get Graphogen from please, not heard of that before.

And is the Optimol paste the same type of grease,

I've been using Corrosion Block, high performance grease, by the people who make ACF50, for a couple of years now,

Thought it may be better to use the proper stuff on the splines etc.

thanks Graham

easy Airhead spine lube is

here

Snowbum does a complicated one - but all his stuff sounds complicated the way he describes it, (good but sometimes covers ever possibility)

Optimal paste is MotorWhatever they call themselves thesedays

Graphogen is an engine and any mechanical part building lubricant.
i've stripped down engines 50,000 miles after a rebuild and there is still traces of Graphogen on bearing faces..
Rolls Royce used to build all their engines with it..
http://www.graphogen.co.uk/
usually available on fleabay @ £12/£14 a tube, which is enough to rebuild around 40 engines :drool
a smear on the splines and I now only relube once every 5 years,,,,,,,
not that it needs it :augie
