How strange is that! It's clearly not a result of stress to the rubber, which looks really thick by the way. Could it have been nicked by something?

I saw similar picture of another GS which had exactly same thing...not sure if it was here or on advrider...I believe it was claimed under warranty.

There are a number of known common faults with the WC GS, what happens when the warranty expires? will bmw sort it out free of charge? the most worrying will be corrosion when the bike is two years and six months old...

I was just thinking that!!!

Stick a bit of gaffa tape over it, take it to the dealer's and bish bosh bang, sorted...if you ask them REALLY nicely to give you a bit of discount on your next service or some farkle you fancy because of the day you've had to take off work, who knows, it could be a good day for you :) .

No, it shouldn't have happened.
Yes, it's a bummer.

But seriously, is it a big deal?

Rubber boot

Mine split on my LC GS when about 6 months old and was replaced under warranty. Bike now 1.5 years old with 12k mile and has been fine. Temp fix for mine was applying a rubber patch ( the type you find in a bicycle puncture repair kit). Lasted fine, was about 4 weeks from memory as at the time the rubber boot was a factory order.

If you're that worried then don't buy one

It's a bit odd as there isn't a seem there to split and it doesn't look pinched (all paid for)

That ticking noise you may be able to hear is my heart pumping rusty piss ....... If you don't like it, get rid of it :comfort
