Found a loose spoke in my front wheel. Tried to tighten it. It would only tighten a little before the adjustment is used up. There are still threads showing above the adjuster, but its screwed into the adjuster as far as it will go, and it still sounds a bit dull when tapped
Just to check if the thread wasnt jammed, I took the spoke out and screwed the adjuster on as far as it would go. It left a few threads showing on the spoke, just as it was when in the wheel.

I tried a few other spokes and they were all at the limit of their adjustment.
The wheel is not running out any more than expected and is not buckled.

Are the spokes and adjusters so accurately machined nowadays, that they just install the spokes and tighten them up all the way, or is there another explanation.

I am fully expecting 'loose spoke' comments and am prepared for them.
Thank you.

I think this is one of the black arts that is best left to the experts. Put it back and don't touch any of the others would be my advice.

There's a tiny grub screw in the the centre of each spoke nipple. Clean all the crud out of the spoke nipple's torx socket and deep down inside it you'll see a tiny allen key socket on the grub screw, in-line with the spoke. You'll need to back off the grub screw before you can tighten the spoke. Then gently re-tighten the grub screw to stop the spoke nipple working loose.

Thanks Ian. You learn something new every day! :thumb2
