Spoke Wheels

Any idea where I could get second hand spoke wheels for an 06 1200GS, I have alloys currently but I would like spokes for offroad. I called BMW for a new set and just shat a filing cabinet at the price.

What a bummer, I thought this was going to be easy. A guy was selling a set for £700 on ebay and I thought that was expensive. Do you know if it is possible to offroad with the alloys?

I was having a chat with a mate in the pub on Saturday night who had a mis-spent youth in South Africa with trail bikes. Rides a Triumph 650 these days.

He too sh@t when he heard the prices for wire wheels for GSs. Wire wheels deform on impact (rocks etc) and hopefuly will maintain an air-tight seal for the tyre. He reckoned cast alloy wheels would likely crack under similar conditions leaving you without a wheel at all.

If you want to go off-road gently and think you can avoid problems like that I guess it is up to you but you might end up with a long walk!

As I said this is what I was told. If any one wants to confirm this or offer other suggestions I would be interested to hear because I have alloy wheels and am also looking for a set of wire wheels on the basis of what I have heard!

I have done a lot of 'gentle' off-roading on alloys. I have never hit a rock at speed (don't really want to) so I cannot comment on what would happen to them.

I simply wanted a second set of wheels so I could easily swap between TKC's and Tourances.

I am half way there as i have a rear wheel but no front as yet
