Spoked Wheel Balancing

Well bought new tyres and had them fitted at a local garage, the lad tells me that their machine cant balance them due to a fitting issue on the machine same for ducs and KTM. So he informs me that these spoked rear wheels dont reallly need done which i thought odd. Tried it on the bike and it only cost a fiver to fit, anyway vibration through bike was awful. So tried three other companies and eventually found a lad out in Oldmeldrum (Craigston Tyres) great service who balanced it and bike back to normal smooth service.

So bottom line dont listen to anyone who says these spoked wheels dont need balancing made a hell of a difference on mine.

If you have TPS it will always need balanced because the sensor throws them out a lot. If you don't have that and you don't have any damage/out of true then it is the tyre that needs it. I ran 6 years without any balance weights. It didn't have any from new either.

Mine are always balanced, surely the mounting details are the same as for the alloys, I smell bs!

Mine is done on a car wheel balancer all they need is a suitable cone to fit the wheel centre hole.

You would think its BS but i went to three reputable garages and was told the same that their machine was not able to balance them.

No matter i now know where i can get them done..

How can you describe them as reputable when they think they need a machine to balance a wheel?

Eh, you going old school without a machine??

That’s like asking a high school student to divide 144 by 12 without a calculator these days. Don’t know of any garages capable or willing to balance a wheel without a machine. Saying that i do not profess to know the difficulties or not of how this is done

The rear wheel can't be static balanced unless the user has a suitable mounting boss for the wheel centre hole. Most only have small cones for bike wheel bearings.
Mine are done static at front and dynamic on back at a car tyre place up the street.
