Hi all,

I've been lurking around for a while but haven't posted yet!

I bought a new R1200GS this summer, really loving the bike.

I have tried the search but no luck, so here's my question!

I want to fit spoked wheels, is there an alternative to the standard BMW spoked wheel?

Thanks in advance!

Why would you want an alternative (other than price)?

The BWM spoked wheel allows you to run tubeless tyres in a spoked wheel. A masterpiece of design that will save you hours whenever you get a puncture off road :clap

£££

Hi Mutley,

yes, I think it is the price that set me wondering!

My local dealer quoted me £1,320 just for the wheels, I imagine that there will a labour charge for fitting them on top of that.

Looks like it's gonna be an expensive upgrade!

Cheers,

Yes, I've just done this to have a set of off-road wheels which I can put on myself. I did it by buying 2nd hand wheels. The wheels and a set of TKCs from a guy on this site were £500ish but the disks(£150 each) and the RDC senders(£70 each) had to come from BMW which meant it still came out at £1000+. But at least I now have 2 sets of wheels and tyres which take me about 30 mins to swap. Of course 1200GS 2nd hand wire wheels do not come up that often.

The only problem is wire wheels look so good on the standard GS, I'm not sure I will want to take them off!

I am looking at going the other way and fittting 17" alloy wheels on 1150GS. apparently 1150r /1150rs/1150rt wheels are straight swop. Finding them at a reasonable price is a different story. New price is near the numbers you are talking.

I was gonna do the same, but at £1000+ just for the wheels (and hardly any used ones available), I decided to buy a used road-legal KTM450 for serious off-roading and keep the GS with alloys for road and light off-road.

KTM450EXC

Hi Pukmiester,

KTM450EXC...............awesome bike!

I still have a lot to learn after going from my KTM450 to the GS...(sold the KTM to buy the GS) but I'll get there, practice makes perfect!
