Planning on doing some adventurous stuff stuff next year as have had to bin my trip for this year. I got the question answered in regard to luggage, but heres another one:  Obviously i am gonna have to fit knobblys on, but would you get away with not using spoked wheels. Just priced a pair with BMW dealers and youre talking 1200 big ones::( As some of the riding will be off road( thinking Morroco ) will the standard wheels put up with a reasonable amount of harder riding? Anybody had the same dilemma????:blast

Personally I would chose spoked if you are doing anything beyond gravelly type tracks. Thats what all the enduro and dakar boys use so it's good enough for me. try to buy secondhand approx £500 if you can find em.

tricky one

give the off road course boys a call, I've heard it said that the new alloys are virtually as strong as spokes and besides you aren't going to be racing are you ????

Had a run over Rutland Rig last year. Not fast by any stretch of the imagination. Managed to scrape the sump guard lightly, and thought that was it. Washing it later i found a small flat spot on the front rim :( . Needless to say i'm now on the look out for some spokes before attempting anything other than a gravel track.

I have a 1999 1100GS ABS with spoked wheels and wud love to swap the b4st4rds for some alloy ones. Use my bike on roads and at worst unclassified country roads. They're tedious to clean and if you can work out a way we could swap without any bother you are welcome to have mine (in exchange for yours). :thumb

I know were there is a well priced spoked front wheel of a 1200 GSA, no rear at the moment, and it's in your neck of the woods :D

Your probably looking at £7/800.00 more realisticly, 'Rocking Horse doobrie springs to mind though' I've been looking for quite a while now with no success.

I think you'll find Jonah rides a 1200 'five bolts in the back wheel'.

I have spoked wheels on my 1200GS in very nice condition (only had the bike a week) and would prefer cast alloys as I don't intend to do any offroading.
I would be interested in swapping with cash my way. Anyone interested in a deal?

EDITED Simon....just for your own good mate....not wise to post your actual email openly....crawler bots (automated email scavengers) look at lots of popular sites to try and get valis email addies for marketting/spam/lists etc ;) )
