spyball alarms

Hi, I have recently purchased a gs1150 with a spyball alarm and immobiliser model Patriot AM/8510

I believe they are no longer trading and suspect it will let me down when Im on top of the alps, or drain the battery.

has anyone had issues with similar and any advice on how to disable or remove would be most appreciated

I`ve got one on mine too, the fuse has been removed, it seems to do the trick!

Just bought an 1150 a couple of weeks ago that came with a spyball alarm/immobiliser. Found that there's a place not too far from me that do all the bits/spares for it.

They're in hemel hempstead and were very helpful when I contacted them to get information about the alarm. If your system currently works, why not keep it, it's a decent deterrent and gets you a reduction (albeit small) on your insurance.

If I were going off into the wilds then yes I'd disable it, but for now it's doing just fine.

Had a spyball alarm/imobiliser fitted on my 1999 1150gs, it was on when I bought it 12 months ago. It let me down two months ago, I was unable to deactivate it with the fob, changed battery in fob, but no luck, as I was stranded miles from home I had to trace back the black wires from the unit and remove it from the harness. It was not very difficult and apart from accidently blowing the tacho fuse by accidently shorting one of the wires, an easy fix, it is now removed from the bike. Any pottential thief with a couple of brain cells would be able to do as I did, I would recomend removing it.

booked a ferry already for Europe next summer, got the wife in toe and as such being stranded does not sound appealing, intent on removing the spyball. am tempting fate proberbly.

This is a guy who owned a BSA that did not need a key at all to start it and never in the past owned a bike worth pinching.
