I currently use Spybot, but it cannot remove the infection. I have even deleted, all cookies & internet cache. This was done with the internet disconnected. Run the AVG antivirus as well whilst disconnected. Six of the problems are removed, but come back again. Too much of a numpty to have read through the Help page os Spybot.

I have AVG, Spybot & Microsoft Antispyware running in the background without any detrimental effect on PC performance.

The Google toolbar blocks pop-ups which are how many attackss launch themselves.

Despite using torrent & P2P downloads I haven't had anything get through in the 8 months I've been running this machine.

To deal with your current infection try the Trend Housecall. I run it once a month or so. It usually picks up a couple of minor things like tracking cookies that the ones listed above miss. It also told me about a security vulnerability in MSOffice before my WinXP "automated security updates" had bothered to download the patch. http://uk.trendmicro-europe.com/housecall/v6.5/

If you are using XP make sure system restore is turned off. Sometimes a copy of the infection stays in there and keeps getting restored to the main system folders.

Leave it off for a while then once everything is clear you can re-enable it.

Start 'system restore' then click on system restore settings and a new box will come up. Check the little box next to 'turn off system restore on all drives' then click ok.

Er, you don't actually mention which 'infection' ...assuming it actually is one.
Find it difficult to understand how either AVG or Spybot failed to eliminate it, but as suggested do try the Trendmicro link already posted

They are both nasty things to remove I had the first one bundled with Bearshare P2P program I used XoftSpy to get rid of it, Ironically I got XoftSpy off Bearshare.

I could not find NewDotNet listed in the add/Remove Control Panel as New.Net.

As for Spybot, how do I enable the teatimer. I can't even find the Tools section ! The only place I can find this is in Spybots "Contact - The home of Spybot.

As I may have said before, or I'm sure that you realise now, I am a computer numpty.

I sit still safe to do bankk transactions? I do not have any Trojans, only the previuosly mentioned spies?

Teatimer is the Spybot program that gives you "real time" protection against spyware.

Teatimer should be active as part of the default installation package for Spybot.

To check if Teatimer is running you need to look at your TaskManager (right click on the windows toolbar, select task manager from the menu). Select the processes tab and see if Teatimer is in the list of running programs.

If Teatimer is not running then you need to get into Spybot's "advanced mode" settings. The default mode does not let you tinker with the settings. Once you have access to the settings menu look for the red shield for the "resident" settings. There are some tick boxes to enable the real time protection in this section.

You may have an old version of Spybot S&D which doesn't have the teatimer function. you might need to d/load a newer version (latest is Vers 1.4). You can find it on the above link.

In the link above it also states that it should also remove the NewDotNet too. Is the programs updates the lates ones out you may need to download the latest version, they came out on 23/12/2005.

I have got the teatime function, just didn't realise it was in the advanced bit. I usually just hit the search and destroy button only. As I can't clear the NewdotNet spy, I can't access the bit to tick on the teatimer. The box comes up for rerunning on stsart up. But I am getting there I think.

Should I leave the teatime function switched on?
