Hello
I noticed my rear tyre is starting to square off and was wondering if there is a decent tyre out there that's less prone to this. The bike's a 2011 GSA and the tyre is a Tourance Next.

I'm not hard on tyres but i don't hang about either and most of the miles i do are on B roads so i'm a bit disappointed this has happened.

There's still plenty of tread on it so it seems a shame i'm going to have to bin it and don't want to replace it like for like, if there'a better alternative.

I'd appreciate your opinions on this. :thumb2

How many miles has it done ? Most riders say they 'don't hang about' but there's a world of difference between scrubbing tyres on a track day and going out for a 150 mile ride (I'm a bimbler and despite a bit of squaring off, do OK with TKC70s)

Dunlop Trailsmart Max, over 6000 miles on the rear of my 2018 r1200gsa and still has 4mm plus on the centre and hasn't squared off (at least half of the miles were Autobahn two up with luggage)

But you'll probably be pretty much upright for most of the time

Sadly or whatever a motorcycle in normal, even hooping, use will spend the majority of its time upright or almost upright so will always square off tyres ( unless you are stick of course)

Metzler roasted are pretty good at not squaring off as badly as some but they all do and the only time i have had a tyre where the edges have been more worn than the centre was a particularly hooligan trip in the picos and portugal and i left home with a brand new tyre

Avon trail riders are better than most in my experience.

Metzler roasted.........

I get reasonable miles from my standard tourances. The back always squares of a little though. The front nearly always ends up wearing out the sides with plenty of centre tread left.

Hello
I don't know how many miles i've done on this set of tyres, i didn't note the mileage when i last had them changed. I would reckon around 5000.

I am usually ecstatic if i get 5000 miles from a set of tyres so dont feel too bad

I think ui got 7-8K out of my rear trailrider,

it was square though.

the front was also developing a wear bias on one side

That said they were brilliant tyres. offering superb levels of grip.

Due to a purchasing cock up, i couldnt replace them with the same and went for Tourance's

Now the last set of Metzlers i had were so fekin hard wearing, you could loose your fillings on them lol.

These are no different, they took fucking ages to bed in, think almost a thousand miles, as opposed to 200 on the trailriders

grip wise, they seem to offer the same amount of grip the trailriders do, but they do need to be worked hard to get heat into them.

So i take it the Dunlop Trailsmart and Avon Trail rider are on/part off road hybrid tyres. as is the Tourance Next, the Metzler Roadtec looks like more of a straight road tyre.

I never go off road (not intentionally anyway) so maybe a straight road tyre is the best option for me though gazza said the Roadtec squares off as well

Are Dunlop Trailsmart the tyres that are fitted from new, or did you have them fitted. :thumb2

Standard Tourance’s for me —
Front and back charged at same time —
Always get 10k a set - had four sets over the last 40k — handle well — each set always incorporates a 1500- 2000 mile trip fully loaded.
