Me again.

My bike's recently started to 'squeak' a bit when I first start it.

Similarly the clock has started resetting to 00:00 every morning.

The squeaking seems to only last a few minutes after starting each morning, then it's fine

After a few searches through old posts and eliminating the "change fuse 3" solutions, I noticed someone mention slipping alternator belts, possibly not enough power to the battery, clocks getting little enough voltage during start up etc, etc, so didn't know if the two might be connected?

I might be talking total tosh.

Any thoughts?

(You know, one day I might be able to answer someone elses question - fancy that!)

Don't know about the squeek but the clock is just your battery voltage dropping too low overnight.

Squeaking is possibly a loose alternator belt, clock resetting can be caused by low battery, which can be caused by a loose alternator belt, I see a pattern forming. Or it could just be the battery on its way out.

Belt

Give it a rev and see if it squeaks a bit if so just needs adjusting , but sound like dud batters.

It's only fuse 3 if the clock resets everytime you turn the ignition on and off.

The squeaking sounds like a loose alternator belt. Check the tension and if neded tighten it up and see if it cures the noise.

Thanks folks, will check all.

Squeaking sound only happens when I start up in the morning - doesn't seem to happen when I start up in the evening to go home.

The battery being undercharged sounds about right as the clock only resets when the bike struggles to turn over.

Steptoe, I'll look up your thread regarding the alternator belt.

Also, bloody left-hand spotlight bulbs gone this morning.

There's always something, eh.

Life's an adventure.

Thanks again folks!

Probably squeaks in the morning because that's when it's coldest.

Replace the spotlight lamps with HID's, they have no filament to blow and will probably outlast the bike. Uses less power if you go for the 35watt versions and you still get way more light.
