hello, just wondering if anyone has had bother with a squeeky rear shock unit,i've covered approx 11,000 miles mainly off-road and in all conditions, had it through deep rivers and for the past four months the squeek has been getting worse, ive taken the air pressure out and sprayed the shaft with wd40 which has eased it a bit,but it's still there.any ideas ?
i've e-mailed continental so if i get any joy i'll let you know for the future.

cheers

I sorted mine......:augie

It's fairly common for them to do that. I got mine replaced under warranty after 2 years. The noise comes from the shock itself rather than it being a grease thing (according to Clarkes).

+1 greasing replacing bearings doesnt solve the problem - noise came from shock inside - solved with replacing it to Hyperpro :augie

Thanks for advice on squeak:blast
It's defo the shock unit timolgra,i've had it off the bike and it squeaks on the rebound.
Timpo,wd40 is cheaper than ohlins, although it is my next option.
Mtbiker, which is better hyperpro or ohlins, there's only one way to find out...fiiight!
and i'm still waiting for advice from continental gaz,so watch this space.

I didn't like how air damper works on more aggressive trails so squeak was just an excuse :beerjug:

My original shock was replaced under warranty due to a squeak, just as the shock topped out. An additional problem with mine was the bottom shock bolt seized in the swingarm so they ended up replacing the swingarm as well. To stop that happening again the bolt is now well greased and a wine cork stuffed in the hole.

2 years on and my replacement shock has started to give an occasional squeak. I can't justify a replacement shock at the moment and I do like how both the damping and spring rate are adjusted to cope with luggage by increasing the pressure. Or is this just blissful ignorance?

A squeak was the last thing on my mind when i spent the money to get rid of that shite airbag shock.........

Timpo,

How are you finding the ohlins on the XC? does it increase ride height at all over the air shock?

WD40 is not a good lubricant and can make matters worse as it washes out any lubricant.

Got the reply from continental at long last the other week,"contact your dealer" it said, well thanks a piggin bunch, you made the bloody thing !
anyway, looks like i'll have to smash the kids piggy banks for a new ohlins !
