SS bolt kit for R1150GS

Which one to get? I need the most complete one, everything is rusted badly Steptoe used to sell one in his gsshop from what I gather but I can no longer find the item

I would recommend the shaw stainless kit. I have recently got this kit and it's really good pretty much everything you'd want in there and at a pretty decent price too.

The Steptoe kits were available from eBay in the US.

Oh no they weren't..... My kit weighed a few kilos and included every single nut, bolt and washer on the bike... those american kits contained front engine bolts, alternator cover and a couple of others and weighed a few ounces.

I know this because i bought one, saw how pathetic is was and decided to put together a "proper" kit. I measured/sized every single nut and bolt, even the ones that you'd only get to when doing a clutch change for instance. Who else supplied the gearbox bolts in their "kits"

The only problem was having to buy such huge amounts of stainless. But it did enable me to sell them for £56 a full kit, and i mean full. No other seller comes near to what i supplied in a kit

I've still got half a pallet of assorted stainless nuts and bolts in my lock up..

I went through the microfiches on the real OEM website and ordered all the sizes from my local engineering supplies.

Took about an hour or so and I didn't get the heads all nicely polished as with the Chris Shaw set.

I'm also considering dipping rusted bolts in hydrochloric acid and then getting them zinc plated. Should be fraction of the cost and no worries about SS bolt being wrong strenght/brittlenes for the application.

Steptoe's SS kits

I bought a complete kit from Neil for my last 1150 GSA and never got round to fitting it before selling the bike later that year..

However now used on my latest 1150 GSA, brilliant kit... 5 years on

If he ever sells any more kits BUY one immediately.

St st bolts aren't brittle ....and I'm sure there aren't any hi Tensile 8.8,s to worry about.

SS bolts are an issue with SS nuts - galling self welding. But it's fine with a ferrous nut or into aluminium. If the thread back is open to weather use Loctite to seal the threads. SS and aluminium don't get along very well.
