Stainless Bolts etc on ebay.

Pretty good score on feedback, but still 64 negs in a month, mostly wrong sizes or not delivered.

For the sake of twelve and a half quid delivered though, worth a shot. :nenau

It's just a load (280) of M5, M6 and M8 socket head bolts and nuts (some lock nuts) not specific to the 1150GS far as I can see... so might not be that useful. Would have thought a kit for the 1150GS or whatever would better, if that's what you want to do i.e. replace the ones on the bike with stainless.

This is listed as a kit for the 1150GS.... I'm a bit tempted...

I was hoping to get one of Steptoe's kits but the thread has sort of dried up.

I think it's just clever/untruthful wording... it says at the bottom:

"Great for - Engine cases / Wheels / Exhaust / Covers Fuse etc etc / Brackets / Light & Mounts / Mounts parts / Racks / Handlebars / Steering column / Body frame, In fact all bolted parts, Looks great to!...."

Don't read anywhere that it includes all necessary fasteners to completely replace original ones on your 1150GS... and anyway what are all the nuts for?? Don't think there's many of them for replacement? No I'd say it's just three bags of assorted fasteners, some of which may be useful for your 1150GS, but most of them won't be... but I could be wrong ;)

ps I'd definitely be up for one of Steptoe's kits if they materialise - they'd be sure to include the relevant fasteners and no useless extras!!

Quite correct.I bought some as i tend to use a lot on various projects.
A decent, made for the bike set will set you back about 50 quid or you just have to measure every nut/bolt you want to replace then go to a supplier with a long list.

All of the above.

It IS a kit of SS nuts and bolts that will fit an 1150, but it is NOT a full SS nut and bolt replacement kit for an 1150 on a bolt for bolt replacement basis.

As long as you know that, I reckon it's still a pretty good value buy :thumb2

Usual caveats....I have no idea who they are, no links etc etc.

I think Fanum's right there, I'm going to go for it.

As my old Dad used to say "they'll come in handy, even if you never use 'em".

:D

Even if only a dozen of the 280 fasteners are used on the 1150? It's only good value if there is a use for them.

True, but they are bog-standard metric kit......I can't imagine that only a dozen could find a home on a bike, but even if only half could, you'd still have a nice box of spares for all those little 'OOO I'll bolt this pelicase on here' or 'Hmmmm I can tweak this bracket, add another bolt and it'll be pukka' type moments :thumb2

A random selection of stainless nuts and bolts will always find a home at some point, even if it's only bodging a fix on a lawnmower or a desk lamp or something :nenau

Be a little bit careful with stainless steel fasteners. The market is flooded with Brazilian crap at the moment. OK for engine cases and non load bearing areas but are chemistry only and have no traceability or mechanical testing. I would never replace any brake, suspension, steering or engine mounting with anything that didn't come with certification. A2/304 is in my opinion suitable only for holding kitchen equipment together unless it has full chemistry and mechanical testing from an independent test house.

BMW insist on batch testing and full traceability on all fasteners. They also keep these records for 25 years. I've said it before B&Q don't. Having a nice shiny un safe bike is a no brainer. I know many on here will say I've used them for years but as a professionally qualified engineer I will not.

As Fanum says:

These kits contain

Various length M5, M6, M8 Allen head bolts each with;

1x flat washer
1x spring washer
1x plain hex nut
1x nyloc nut

so out of 280 pieces you get;

56x bolts
56x flat washers
56x spring washers
56x plain hex nuts
56x nyloc nuts

Still good value but not enough to change everything.:thumb2

That company 'lost' an order of mine once. And most of that kit won't be useful - you'll have a load of spare M5s - buy a good specific kit.

I bought a set when I was 'stealthing' the 1100.

Very pleased with what i got. It ain't bike specific for sure, and i only had to nip to my local engineering supplies shop for the bolts for the front cover, which were cheap anyhow.

As Fanum predicted I had spares to bolt a pelicase to some chequer plate. ;)
