Read a thread a few days ago about the full kits available namely from Shaw Engineering. Has anyone bought one and are they good value @ £120 ?

Unfortunatly Steptoe does not do a kit for 1100gs, did buy a couple of kits from Vern many years ago not sure if he still does them.

cheers

Stainless kits

Hi Den

I bought one a few years ago (can't remember where from now) but I am just about getting to the last few bits that need replacing. Did it on a gradual basis as and when the rot set in.

I must admit that the bike does look a lot better with nice shiny fittings, and the quality seems pretty good (even with the salty atmosphere here). I have used copper grease (sparingly) in order to avoid the stainless/alloy reaction that causes the bolts to seize.

I see that both Motorworks and Moto-bins do the kits for about the £140 mark. Not cheap but compared to other bits and pieces I have bought I would say value for money. Before you decide which kit ot go for, just make sure that you are getting the same number of fastners in which ever kit you go for.

Hope this helps

I bought a set from Chris Shaw for my 1200GSA - very pleased. Is it worth the money - entirely down to personal preference. Very difficult to justify on logical grounds - but I have no regrets.

I actually bought this kit earlier today as a number of my bolts have started to rust. I see from an earlier post that he supplies the kits to Motobins and Motorworks who according to Beak Freak appear to be charging £140 for the kit - it's £70 direct from Chris... :rob

You got a top deal Dave @ £70. Got a deal but lots more than that most kits circa £120. Nice bloke and very helpful.

Sad but looking forward to playing with all them shiney bolts

can anyone provide a link to Mr Shaw or how to get in contact?

Cheers :beerjug:

£120  Shite, i really must get off my arse and put an 1100 and 1200 kit together.
At those prices i could retire 10 years early.

Just done a quick sum - If i'd have charged those prices i'd have made an extra £18200 profit on my kits over the last couple of years - :blast

That's his price for the 1200 kit.

Ordered online, payed with paypal on Tuesday from Chris Shaw and they arrived today :clap

Is anyone doing kits with stainless Torx fasteners rather than hex, allen key ones? I am always concerned about the ease with which hex fittings will round off, especially if you do get an alloy/stainless elctrolitic siezure. I have seen individual metric stainless fittings at shows like Kempton bike jumble but not seen any kits yet.

And thats the truth when you consider what the per unit costs are of stainless fasteners...not a lot.

For example:
Hexagon Socket Head Cap Screw, M8 x 45 would run me about £0.39 and with mark-up to those who wanted to buy a few. And thats for a large size fastener; something like an M6 is substantially less.

It would be worth for a few riders to get together and buy their SS fasteners in boxes of 100 to get the super cheap prices. Cost price for most were in the 20 pennies range.

And as nice as SS is to look at, I'd always use an anti-seize compound on them. SS does have its disadvantages.

STAINLESS KITS

Hi guys, my name is Chris and I am the supplier of the stainless kits that Motorworks and Moto-Binns supply. Firstly can I thank those who have posted me some great feedback!!!!!:thumb2

The kits that I supply do not contain standard off the shelf bolts, each one is lathe turned to a highly polished finish which reflects in the additional cost of our kits. A lot of our kits also contain specials such as bleed nipples, brake pins, filler plugs etc etc.

If you are interested in any of my kits please log onto www.shawstainless.co.uk.

Again many thanks to those of you who appreciate our products.:beerjug:
