My bike was very clean, but I wasn't happy with the pock marks on the oil cooler so it needed sorting.
As most of the laser cut guards seem to restrict the airflow and I already had some woven stainless steel wire mesh, I gave it a go.
I removed the beak and cut the mesh to fit over the oil cooler side of the opening. The top edge is folded slightly more than 90 degrees and sits under the little black spoiler. The bottom edge is folded 90 degrees and sits along the underside edge of the beak. I have not shaped the bottom edge as it is completely hidden and does not interfere with anything underneath the beak.
To prevent the mesh fraying I bound the edges with weatherproof tape the sides are protected with slip on rubber edge trim. The same stuff is used on the beak opening to prevent the mesh chafing.
I thought long & hard about drilling the plastic, but to make sure there could be no rattles or chafing it was the only option. I used some large headed M5 alloy screen bolts and large washers. The mesh separates to let the bolts through.
