Hi all,

I slipped down to my local fastener supplier and picked up a bucketful of shiny stainless bolts to replace the less than nice ones I’ve taken off during the rebuild.

Two questions…

Firstly, I’ve used stainless bolts on every bike I’ve ever owned without a problem. However, I can’t remember if I read something about using a particular grease on stainless bolts to stop them reacting with BMW cases. Can anyone offer any advice?

Secondly, I’m planning on replacing the M10 bolts which hold the subframe to the engine with stainless steel- is there any particular reason I shouldn’t do? I’ve read things about folk claiming ‘stainless bolts sheer!’ In applications such as brake caliper mounting. Again, I’ve never had a problem but…..

Cheers
Mike

Never had an issue with stainless including on disc caliper mounts and disc mounting applications , I do ,however, always use Aluslip (alumium graphite anti seize grease ) on casing fixings to stop corrosion. It is also safe to use around ABS sensors
