Hi

I have been looking to fit crash bars and tank protection on my GS for a while now. I almost got me a pair of Hepco Becker, but after speaking to the guys at Motobins, I got the impression that these bars are mainly for "decorative" purposes as they are powder coated mild steel and not stainless steel.:(

I really like the H&P bar and tankprotection design and would like to have them in stainless steel  But the only ones that do stainless are Touratech but theire bar does not give the same protection as the H&P thats why you will need to buy a extra cylinder cover and end up spending £300-400 :spitfire

Anyways I would like to ask if there is anyone out there who have the engineering skills to fabricate me a pair of "Hepco becker" Look alike engine and tank protection but in stainless steel:beerjug::hapybnce:

Now I don't understand this bit. I thought they were quite similar in design. i.e. both have a piece of metal to protect the cylinder (and ground out if you're brave enough).

I think there is a differens, maybe I am wrong:confused:
But Touratech dont make a tank protection and it costs £250 which is a bit overkill , as i have seen similar bars but for the 1150 for half that price and much better protection.

Still would be thankfull if anyone would offer theire skills to fabricate me a set, who knows maybe it turned out to be a good business venture for that person.

As no one seems to do them (in stainless steel):aidan

just because the HB bars are powder coated doesnt mean they are for "decorative" purposes - u can be assured they are not. ok if u come off the paint will be damaged but so what - the bars have done thier job and protected the heads.

:blastDropped my GSA in September off road in the Peak District - went down not that hard or fast but managed to bend the n/s bar slightly - I was a bit miffed thinking that BMW bars should be made more substantially...

Having now had the opportunity to take it into Woolaston's at Northampton the technician warned over putting some aftermarket protectors in place, as they were too hard - in essence the impact is then taken by the engine, not the bar itself.

He then proceeded to tell us of an instance where a bike had been dropped (admittedly on tarmac) and the bar had not bent - in fact the engine casing point that the bar attached to sheared. They had to replace the engine under the ensuing insurance claim!!! :blast

Crash bars

Thats the point of them they have to give and absorb the shock as if too
strong they will pass on the stress to the engine and thats what happens.
The adventure bars on my 1150 got a good (really good) bashing last year
and distorted a little bit will go back but need "springing" into place, but the right hand horizontal straight bit which is fixed to the crankcase via a 10mm
allen bolt. The crash caused this bolt to bend! and this would take some doing! very lucky it dident crack the engine if these had bent a bit this would not have happend. Just made the bolt difficult to remove.

Buy them

I got side swiped by a opel corsa in Portugal this year,I was in 1st gear filtering and he decided he didnt want to que any longer and did a 90 degree turn into the right hand side of me.

The engine bars took the full force actually getting pushed back to the fins and bouncing back, for the money they are pukka.:thumb2

Just ordered me a pair of H&B engine and tank bars from Motorworks , very help full guys indeed it cost £247 which is a bargain

Now I am going offroad hahaha
