Just back from an agrevating 2 hours in the garage trying to slip the OE muffler on to my new Staintune downpipes.........without success! :tears It would seem the diameters are about the same. I have tried heating and opening up the end of the muffler but still cant get it over the downpipe connection! Anyone any similar experiences or suggestions? I will phone Sportouring in the morning to see if they have any ideas!

The Staintune headers are a larger diameter than standard as you well know now. The Staintune slip-on muffler comes with a reducing spacer so it will fit the smaller standard headers. Think you would need to have a muffler shop expand the end of the BMW muffler professionally to suit or just buy a Staintune muffler.

Curious as to why you've bought aftermarket headers?

BTW I've heard good things about the quality of Staintune on other makes of bike but never seen one of them in the metal.

The headers will be free flowing as they are larger diameter and there will be no cat. The quality is fine but the design of the Staintune pipe I looked at for my Mille was shite IMO.

oh dear

Thanks my Aussie buddy, that would seem to be the issue for sure! Mike at Woodys where i bought it doesnt seem to be answering his phone today.... Cant beleive they would make it a fraction larger and even more cant believe they didnt say anything about this when i ordered it!
yes the new header pipes are to enable me to ditch the Cat, and free up some rid range power without it being too loud etc.....although not looking such a good idea now:nono

I have Staintune silencer in vgc and used very little.Call me on 07734217894 if you want to go down that route.cheers.Paul

thanks

Thanks guys for your input, taken Paul up on the offer of his staintune muffler...job sorted!

confused.....and frustrated

the plot thickens.....took delivery of the staintune muffler today and have just returned from the garage spitting feathers as the d.... thing still wont fit! The staintune muffler fits the OE down pipes beautifully but the staintune down pipes are still too big to allow either the OE muffler or indeed Staintunes own muffler!!!!! I am now very confused and frustrated.... it looks to me as though the staintune down pipes are simply wrongly manufactured, as though they simply 'forgot' to turn the pipe down at the end? Anyone got a close up of the Staintune downpipes?
