Standard exhaust can getting louder ?

As per title. My 2013 bike has now done coming up to 17000 miles and I could swear the can is becoming noisier as if the packing in decaying.

Anybody else experiencing this or is it just my imagination. BTW, I don't like noisy exhausts so it is not a good thing for me .

These is no packing in a factory silencer and I would doubt it is rotting out. Is this on the motorway or in town? If it is In town/slower driving then the the flappy valve might be stuck open.

Well sort of town riding but notice it more when accelerating up to speed. I'll have to check the valve, didn't think of that.

It's not the exhaust valve as I have just checked it and it is working fine. There is definitely a boomier noise when revved from idle to say 4000 rpm.
