Just a quick question
My gs1100 has a fuel can on it at the moment
I have a standard system as well
Which does the bike run better with?
Not interested in noise just how they run
Cheers

You could swap them over & tell us what you think feels best, I’d guess the Bmw exhaust would suit the engine/fuelling better than most aftermarket ones.

Good call
I should stop being lazy and try them both
Might be a plan for tomorrow 👍

Not the 1100 but back in the early 2000's on my first 1150 I tried numerous combinations
Standard cat and pipe
Standard cat with Remus road pipe
Standard cat with Remus race pipe
Decat y piece and standard pipe
Decat y piece and Remus road pipe
Decat y piece and Remus road pipe

Bike went best with the decat y piece and standard pipe followed very closely by the standard cat and pipe, all others were either too noisy or just did not suit my riding style.

Nowadays all my bikes icluding my current 1250gsa and 1150gs are standard pipes only

Yep, spot on.

People equate extra noise with more power and going faster, in almost all cases wrongly. :D
More noise also attracts more attention, and if you want to ride fast that’s not what’s wanted :D

I prefer quietness tbh
My ears are just too old
Not like in 1979 when I had a Honda CBx six
With a piper 6 into 1
I digress

I have an 1100 with a gemi stage 4 chip, straight through mid pipe and a Remus end can. I just prefer the exhaust note to standard and for the kind of riding I do now (not so much knee down!) it's not loud enough to be a problem.

I have another Remus end can and a mid pipe with expansion box/silencer if anyone is interested. Can send photos.

I've tried various on my history of 11GS's... I liked my Remus with proper collector and Suoerchip in the early 00's and had another 11 with a Lazer set up but prefer the standard pipe... Oilheads only had a very limited tuning range and it's easy to make them run shite... The standard can gives you decent midrange and sounds like a muted 2CV to boot...👍😆

One of the best, fastest and superb 1100GS I owned was (supposedly) bog standard including exhaust.
I used it as a loan bike, everyone used to mention it when they returned it.
It was previously owned by BMW and used as a press fleet bike when the 1100 was released… which may have something to do with the performance. A blueprinted engine :D
Mind you, it was thirsty, used to go through a tank of petrol at around 110/120 miles

Well all
Fitted standard pipe and I don’t know if it’s that I’m old but I really prefer it
Quiet subdued but seems to really pull well
The only two issues now are
My abs lights now stay blinking so I’m assuming tear it all out and my tickover is at 900 rpm
But apart from that all seems good in the garden

Why is a 900 rpm tickover a problem ?
I have my bikes tick over at 700/900 rpm

Not a problem it seems quite happy there but I think I read somewhere 1050 ?

These bikes fix themselves
Been out the abs is now working and the tickover is 1050
