Thinking of fitting BMW winglets to my 09 GS, can any of you guys tell me if you still get full adjustment if they fitted with the standard screen? Has anyone got this set up?

hi,fitted winglets to my 08 gs with standard screen,winglets did interfeer with screen lower corners when screen was raised,fixed the problem by filing the corners off.

you can not use it in the highest position, good idea to fit them but better if you put an adv screen

Is fitting winglets with a standard screen worth the cost and effort? The standard GS screen on its own is dreadful for wind noise.
The winglets are a doddle to fit,
BMW have made it an easy upgrade - you will find that there are already holes drilled into the metal mounting, (under the fairing where the wings mount).
However, when the dealer looks at his parts electronic catalogue it is likely he will not be able to find the part number for the 4 x captive nuts which slide neatly over these holes.
Their part number is 46.63.7.658.638, you'll need 4.
Top tip....before you remove the fairing to expose the bracket, mark with a pencil through the bracket holes onto the underside of the fairing, hopefully when you remove the fairing your pencil marks are inside little "boxes" moulded onto the underside of the plastic! If you drill where your marks are you will be spot on!

I don't think older GSs have the hole described above. Certainly newer ones do. Several people appear to have fitted them without the metal pre drilled plate under the fairing without ill effects. Some BMW dealers advise against this and some do not. I am going to risk it

I find the standard GS screen very quiet compared to my K1200S, which I thought was the best screen in terms of wind noise and protection when compared to the other faired bikes I've owned (my Caponord was deafening).
It's a very personal issue as the riders height and seating position make a huge difference, as does a tankbag, topboxes and pillions etc.

I certainly find it noisy and buffetting is unpleasant. If you stand up on the pegs the reduction in wind noise is stark. I have also taken off the windscreen completely - not to be recommended at this time of year but again the result is really noticeable.

I fitted winglets (and Adv screen) to my 05 GS. With no metal underneath I just measured the hole positions from a GSA in the showroom so it was possible to fit without taking the beak off.
I used biggish washers underneagh to spread load on plastic and despite warnings to the contrary it did not result in the bike falling to bits. In fact shortly before selling I threw it down the road which resulted in a broken winglet but no damage to the beak.
Definately worth fitting the Adv screen though

Stage one completed. Now have winglets fitted and they do not seem to make any difference with the standard screen. Have ordered the MRA vario touring screen so we shall see what happens. I know, I know. I should have ordered the GSA system but want to keep things simple and cheap so I can remove the screen entirely for shortish Summer rides when I will fit the Wunderlich instrument cowl.
I have just fitted, but not yet tried, some NN winglets to give a bit of extra weather protection to the sides of the screen. I already have a taller Cee Baileys screen, which cured the annoying buffeting from the standard screen. This is also has a less angular shape than the standard screen, which could be a reason for the better airflow. Anyway, from messing around with the standard screen and a laminar lip, before settling on the Cee Baileys, I do not believe that the winglets will make any real difference to the buffeting as this seems to come over the top of the screen. The NN winglets do fit nicely with the Cee Baileys screen in the high position.
Well, winglets fitted with standard screen, can certainly notice a difference at motorway cruising speeds less buffeting around your lower half, not tried with the other half though!
Still some wind blast above the screen but then there would be cause a taller screen would cure that.Conclusion is it's a cheap mod worth doing, a GSA screen is TFD at the moment.

Lorus, this only happens if you put the winglets to far forward. You should have tried it before drilling the holes....

deaninkl,bike is 08 model,the holes are pre drilled in the metal bracket below the plastic,so there is only one place they can go,you cannot fit them too far forward.

Winglets fitted to my 59 1200 did rub on the screen in the high position,adjustment to the winglets not possible ,so i just took 1/4" off the corners of the screen.
Definately a decrease in the amount of buffeting i experience,interestingly Joanne felt it was much less breezy on the back.
