I have recently had a gel insert fitted by Tony Archer Seats and thought i would share my info.
Tony recovered and put a gel insert into the standard seat and i am 100% happy with the result and service - i would recomend his company.
I tried different aftermarket seats ( at great cost) and found that the alternatives were not that good at solving the the problem of numb bum.
The aftermarket formed seat is comfortable for a short while but after 100 to 150 miles the age old problem of 'god my arse hurts' rears its head. I am not saying that the aftermarket seats are no good but i feel the cost does not warrant the comfort, as far as i have found.
The standard seat is uncomfortable but if you put the gel insert in it really does improve it to the point of 300 miles is fine , you will always find your bum will be sore after 100's of miles but that is the nature of sitting in the same position for a long time (thats bikes).
Hope this info helps if you are looking at improving your comfort.
It may not be the same for everyone but i have been thro the excersise .

PS. I am designing some Vario Pannier Stiffner supports for people who carry a lot of gear on trips soon (stops the flex in the pannier standrard mounts when carring a lot of weight - if anyone is interested -i will post pictures of the finished items in innovations section.

Do you have contact details for Tony Archer, and how much did he charge?

Does anyone know of any firms offering a similar service in the South East (Surrey)?

I got a leaflet last weekend from a motorcycle seat specialist in Kent called Viking Vinyl - I've not used or heard of them before so I cant recommend them. I dont know of a similar company in Surrey, but you could try asking local dealers to see what they recommend (Infinity in Farnborough have some good contacts).

Whilst doing a quick web search, I notice that Bagster do some great looking seats, which you can also tailor to your own personal size and taste! It's a one piece seat, but is competively priced at £327. I used the website to create a custom spec one with my own choice of colours, an extra 2cm higher and a gel insert. I spoke to the UK importers, who are Trophy UK, and they said that the extra custom bits only cost another £70 but delivery takes six weeks at the moment. TBH, I think that's a great priced compared to other custom seats.

This is my design: Black and Anthracite Nubuck, gel insert for rider and an extra 2cm higher for rider:

Stick - I'd be interested to know how much the pillion comfort has changed. The stock GSA pillion seat is pants I am told and I am trying to find ways of improving pillion comfort, else I'll be riding solo..she threatens.

Cheers.

Hi i had both the pillion and rider seats done at Tony Archers and both are great - i have not tried the pillion as my wife refuses to ride the gs as she is only short and the size puts her off so i cannot say how the comfort is.
She thinks it great. I did however buy a pair of Touratech seats and i had to return the rider seat as it was uncomfortable but the touratech pillion is good - wife has said that the original (with insert) is as comfortable as the Touratech one,so i kept it. I have the original pillion with the insert in , youre welcomr to try it as its just in the garage - let me know if your interested and maybe i could send it for you to try.The seat is off a 2005 gs not an adventure.
Hope this helps
