STANDING ON PEGS...

I did it dropping off the curb onto the road leaving the fish and chip shop.... sooo satisfying looking like a boss.

The other time was traversing Hardknott Pass but that isn't the same.

Then you three need further training in how to make progress without looking like a cock .... :P

I was reading those three replies and exactly the same thought expressed by Giles came to mind. The only time I've stood up to see traffic ahead of me was when stationary on an Autobahn, and bike on the side stand.

All other times, standing up is to give the arse a break from long riding or to just stretch the legs.

Nah, as long as you are standing up to keep yourself in shape for good riding, the plod will not bother. Ride like a twat, standing up on the pegs through town, the plod may get interested in you.

the only other time you stand up is offroad ... and plods not gonna come there to watch you.

How about if you're on a quiet Irish motorway with lots of miles to do to get to the ferry with cruise on and leaned back against the roll pack strapped to the pillion seat?

It can be illegal in some situations, but is an absolute requirement when arriving at a motorcycle encampment.

That field at Dent was at least as treacherous as the Road of Bones, obviously there was no way to traverse it seated.

8 years....take him down.

Just look how treacherous and gnarly that road is.What a hero !!!

I do it occasionally to give my rubbish legs a stretch on a long ride. I even did it on an FJR the other day, right cramped up them things are!

I used to do it periodically to have a stretch, now I have a Helite air vest the leash prevents it.

Now and again on a long hot day i stand up and stretch my legs whilst riding as many other GSers seem to do........anyone know if that is allowed by the plod......legal ?? ..just wondered..

Yes it is allowed as long as you are deemed to be in full control you vehicle, however some less than knowledgeable police officers and magistrates might not have sufficient level of understanding and take a different view :)

I stand on motorways for a few mins every hour. My knees are pretty shot and standing helps settle them down again.
Stretching my legs from a sitting position helps my knees too but unfortunately my right hip is pretty buggered up too and sticking my leg out whilst sitting aggravates that so standing it is.

I ride everywhere standing up, cos I'm a fucking legend.:D

A nice way to stretch out the legs or adjust trousers but strange that there is some negative feelings towards bikes that are designed to be ridden seated or standing. I like riding standing up and there is more control from your centre of gravity being lowered but then I'm ready for the assassination squad to jump all over that. Surely there is a time and place? Does the LC not have the drop down brake flap/extender?

Oh I don't know, I managed to pilot my LC seated across said field ;)
