I've had a couple of the Starcom 1 units, most recently on a Fireblade and they've worked well.
With the New GS, I went all out and bought the most upto date version of the Starcom, the Starcom Digital.
StarCom1 Digital is the range topping brains of the family, Fully configurable. The connectivity allows for 2x stereo music system inputs and 2x phone inputs so the rider and passenger can be individual.
The unique digital control system allows:
1) Fully automatic operation.
2) User configuration/programmability of virtually every parameter - customise to your exact requirements.
3) Intelligent noise reduction. The microprocessor control system provides:
► Digitally controlled noise reduction - fully automatic
► Digitally controlled volume - fully automatic
► Digitally controlled mic sensitivity - fully automatic with programmable levels
► Digitally controlled mute control - programmable level and mute time
► Mobile phone. Enjoy a normal phone conversation at speed.. Totally hands free
► Satellite Navigation or radar, allows voice commands to be heard clearly
Inputs..._
►Rider headset
►Passenger headset
►Rider music input
►Passenger music input
►Rider phone input
►Passenger phone input
►Remote control
►Satellite Navigation
►Bike-to-bike radio
Having got that I combined it with a Garmin ZUMO 500 Advanced Sat Nav.
The Garmin connects to the phone input of the Starcom and gives voice navigation through the starcom unit, however, it also has a bluetooth radio in it so you can pair your mobile with it and have a phone conversation via the GPS, it mutes any music or voice prompts and connects the call. It also allows you to call from the POI database, see your call history etc.
Another cool feature is that the ZUMO takes SD Cards so with a 4Gb car in it, I can put the whole of Europe on the unit plus 1000 MP3 tracks which it will play to with a neat little MP3 interface on the ZUMO.
All in all I don't think it can be beaten it does everything, the comms unit itself is about the size of a 10 pack of cigarettes (maybe less) and the Garmin comes with a RAM mount that gives a dozen different mounting options. For a GS its easy to mount it to the rollover bar for the dash and it doesn't obstruct the clocks or forward vision.
In my opinion 10/10. Well done Starcom & Garmin. Two units that work perfectly together. Anyone that wants to know more post and I can put up pictures / videos etc.
Took less than an hour to connect and wire it all up!
