Has anyone used the Starcom intercom (www.starcom1.com). I have to decide whether to get my Autocom repaired or splash out on a complete new system for £160.

No one has replied to this thread yet or to Motomartin's similar question at the back end of last year ........and..

After reading Rob Farmer's Dissatisfaction with Autocom, and Bakerman's, and............

Has anyone Bought one yet or am I gona have to be the Club Guinea Pig..........

I have an Autocom Pro 3000 which is working fine, it's just that they (Autocom) won't supply the headsets I want, without speakers but with a 3.5mm stereo socket instead.........,

I've Butchered my current ones but they are almost......er....Donald-Ducked and I want some new ones.......

Reading the grief folk are getting with interference using accessories with the Autocom, I'm looking at Starcom to see if they are any better at getting rid of the 'Snap, Crackle and Pop'!!..
:D

Same question again........anyone tried one yet?

WARNING.............

OPINION APPROACHING

I do not claim to be an expert on this subject. I have however done a lot of investigating into the `Autocom` product type thingy`s.

My understanding is that the Autocom itself (as a product) is a trouble free piece of kit and the problems that people are having with inteference (humming etc) is being caused by their source of power . ie where they are taking their power from .

If this is the case surely any piece of kit that is not powered by a seperate SP11 will always encounter this problem.

True or False

Caution potential incoming.........................

I have to agree with you there Jam...........

The thing that bugs me is that Autocom know what people want to hook up to their Units and supply VERY Expensive leads to connnect them ..........

So, why can't they get rid of the interference by building in anti-ference, or suggest solutions that 'work'..........

Surely a simple 'Smoothing Unit' or similar that provided power for all sorts of portable accessories wouldn't be beyond their capabilities, would it..........??

Just a Lay-persons (read simple) view of course........;)

before you stop using your Autocom unit, why not get in touch with Headset services down in Shoreham Sussex. They've got a website so just do a Google search an up it'll come. As I recall, they can tailor make your headset requirements.

good luck;)

Thanks for the link Phil,

I've had a look, they seem to be another Autocom Supplier and just do their own thing when it comes to headsets......

My beef is the way Autocom seem to be sticking their heads in the sand and won't supply what I want because it doesn't fit 'their' requirements..........strange really.....

Starcom1 seems to be worth a look at, and they do a "Headset" with my exact requirements as well as with Speakers for both full and open face....

The pricing also seems to be 'more keen'............I know that cheaper can sometimes mean lower quality....but could be worth a try.........

Autocom may just be taking their eye off the ball a wee bit here....;)

FWIW my interference problem was down to me being a twit......
I hadn't put the Autocom GPS thingy in-line.......now that I have, the interference is gone.

CC....when i sent my autocom headset away to Ultimate Earplugs, it came back with the mic boom plug, a 3.5 mm stereo socket and the Autocom plug .....sounds like exactly what you need....

Now, if you only knew someone who supplied earplug monitors up there  ;) :D

Seriously...shouldn't take much to do...

That's what I have at the moment as I said earlier and I did the Mod way back when myself............

But I want a new Mic + 3.5mm socket off them.........I don't want the Speakers so Why should I have to pay for them when I all I need is a 75p socket soldering on.........??

CC - The only problem I have with the Autocom is when using the Garmin lead and since that was really the only reason I got the thing in the first instance got me a bit miffed. I tried all of the different power points and even powering from an independent battery and the Garmin lead still picks up the whirring and clicking at any revs below 2k.
My niggle started with the Streetpilot because because I couldn't see the screen at times, so I got the Autocom to take the emphasis away from having to look at the screen only to introduce 'White noise' torture when riding round town...I should have stayed with the Garmin GPS V and been a £1000 better off :(

I'm getting my new bike this afternoon so I'll see if the problem moves across to the new bike. I have a feeling that the problem is bike specific. If it still does it I'll look into an active filter for the Garmin input.
