Well I finally managed to make an adapter lead to plug my iPhone into the Starcom unit, took 3 or 4 attempts and different adapter plugs but it now works for taking/making phone calls.

It should work for music also but Im not gonna use it for that as it will be on the phone connection so only mono but through both channels, plus I suppose the intercom wont work right either, gonna using an ipod on seperate audio connection for that.

Feel quite chuffed with myself, now just to try it when im riding! :D

well..... I got the pinouts for the starcom and the iphone jack, tried to buy a plug that would work with the iphone from the usuall places like farnell etc but to avail, found a lead on ebay that had the plug on it and a socket for standard headphones, it also has a button to answer calls which just shorts out the mic to ground, re qired the socket to suit the starcom headsets mic and speakers and there you go, can now use my iphone to play audio, though in mono through both ears, and take calls, use the button to answer or put on auto answer.

when i have used it i ofcourse slow down to say 50mph, or pull over officer, and people say they can hear me fine. :clap

Good point, I never looked before but have just had a look and I cant find it! I just assumed it would have auto answer as every other phone Ive had does, typical Apple!

Mines a work phone anyway so I dont want to always answer calls so I have just assigned specific ringtones to people I talk to out of work and press the button.

autoanswer

Sadly the iphone doesn't do autoanswer, if you want this option you'll have to go the autocom route with bluetooth dongle. Starcom's bluetooth dongle does not autoanswer.

Which is what I thought and was confirmed by the chap at Starcom who I spoke to on Monday.

I have the (Starcom) double lead - one end plugs into the iPhone, the other splits to the phone socket and the audio socket at the Starcom end. Works well for music but all I can do when the phone rings, is listen to the ringtone!

I have posted on the Apple site asking that autoanswer be included - though this might have happened with the latest operating system released (and not yet uploaded) yesterday?

How much was the Starcom double lead, and if you actually answered the call would you be able to speak to them?

A small adapter lead could then be made with a push to make button mounted to the handlebars which simply answers the call by shorting the mic to 0v.

£25 if I remember correctly. It does not feature on their web site - you have to ask for it for some reason? It is a two-way lead so yes, if you could answer the phone, you would be able to speak.

I have the PTT button for my walkie talkie - I wonder if this could be made to do the same thing as your button?

Yes you could use some sort of PTT switch aslong as its either double pole or not used for something else, just pop to an electrical hardware store such as Maplins and purchase a 3.5mm stereo jack plug and socket, make a straight through lead and bring out 2 wires to the PTT button. 1 from the 0v and 1 from the mic connection.

Ive tried to attach pics so lets hope this works!

Just looked at those diagrams and there is alot more information there that you dont need, basically if I have it right you will short out the tip to the base on the 3.5mm stereo .
