Hi John, thanks for the extended and knowledgeable response
Same here, only to acknowledge a call and tell the other party that I'll ring back. Though I might well pull over and make the call though the Autocom sitting at the side of the road with my lid still on.
If on a long straight, clear road I might venture to hold a short conversation.
According to my Super Pro Avi manual Aux1 activity cuts input on all other channels by 100%, with the exception of Aux4 which it cuts the transmit by 100%. It doesn't say what it does with the pillion headset but mine is never used anyway.
Is this is the way the Starcom works or Autocom?
We try not to do that, jabber that is

The big problem with the pre 2009 Autocoms (not sure about later models) in respect of hooking up a GPS, that your phone can connect to, is that the audio comes out of the GPS via one channel if you're using the official, and fairly pricey, lead. Pluged into Aux1 this would put power into the tip by default and probably not a good idea. Anyway this would only give mono audio from MP3 if it did work.
Any of the other inputs and the audio in will be muted by 50% when the rider speaks, this reverts to 0% after a few seconds but probably after the other party has started talking.
The Autocom 4066 lead that I bought at the NEC show will probably go onto eBay and I'll revert back to using the 1273 in Aux1 and the sat nav via an isolated stereo lead. I already have all this, the 4066 was an attempt to get control of the phone though the sat nave for the convenience of POI calling etc. As you say phone use is rare. Used the 1273 for incoming phone calls all of three or four times since I've had it. The phone though the Garmin is a nice to have that I can do without. Life's too short to spend ages faffing about with that. I all other respects the Autocom set-up is very good.
Thanks for the name
Firstly, I take mobile calls on the bike extremely rarely.

There is no muting on Phone 1 (Aux2 on the Super Pro Automatic) apart from incoming bike to bike (on Aux1) will mute the GPS/phone link.

Tom Beman's (the unit architect) idea was that if your passenger says "Watch Out - Danger" this should take precedence over everything. If someone in the group connected by radio wants to issue a "Watch Out" then this should also take priority over an incoming call/GPS.

If someone is jabbering inanely on the radio - tell them to shut up as you are trying to concentrate.

On the older units connected by a #1273 into Phone 1 surely there should be no muting when the rider talks. The muting from riders speech should only have occurred if the phone was plugged into Phone 2 in order to receive stereo music.

Paul Barrett is the only ex-Autocom employee working at Tecstar and he is always willing to give advice. FYI, he told me that the factory no longer do any new installations, but they can recommend reliable fitters.
