Nowadays, one uses empty wine cases. I still have a few around the house, still not unpacked after a house move in Oct 2023! Laithwaites, Waitrose and Wine Society mostly.

I have garages full of Halfords superstore delivery crates.
Plastic, stack into each other when empty, have removable lids, so if full can be stacked up one on top of another, handles at each end. And used to be free.
They realised a lot were “disappearing” and instead of just leaving them stacked up in the car park to be collected by the next delivery lorry, they now leave them unlocked containers

I have some stuff in a storage place south of the river.

With my first 2 jobs I've been through/helped with/physically carried out so many office moves that I now happen to own some of those plastic boxes with flip tops that are provided to staff in those occasions.

They stack so well in the small confines of Shurgards' units
