Hi Folks

My bike recently had some work done to it which included the start switch, the bike was delivered to me today and you guessed it, bike won't start, switch feels different, any advice:rocketwho

Sorry bike is a 2006 GSA

My advice would be to get in touch with the people who did the work and point out that they have not yet finished.

Try someone else?

Yes, that would be the BMW dealer, but it would appear to be my best option, I'm hoping that someone has had a similar problem that can advise.

The starter will not depress like it used to but I have also noticed that the ABS check is not coming on either so is that a potential low battery problem.

what was done to the switch? When the kill switch is moved between off and on the lcd display should change. Is that happening? To be honest I cant really remember what changes but I think the fuel level and temp switches off. If cold the temp wont do anything but the fuel will.

you posted just before me. Try what I originally said but it sounds like the kill switch is stuck off with no ABS check or it isnt in the middle/on position but you wouldnt be that daft.

When i turn the ignition on, the LCD does not show the ABS test like it used to and moving the starter switch to off and on seems to have no effect on the LCD.

I tried the battery disconnect but no change.

Kill switch isnt working then or isnt plugged in. If the start button feels odd then its probably a broken switch. Back to the dealer I think.

+1

I understand your concern about the dealer but if the kill switch is goosed then they are obliged to replace it.

Btw - I`ve a GS-911 (diagnostic interface & software) from Hex in South Africa - awesome bit of kit - if you have a mate who has one then that should and would tell you.

The bike has been unridden for awhile and i was wondering if the battery was not causing the problem.

Turn on ignition, neutral light comes on and lcd display, apply brakes and the servos come on, turn off ignition and i can hear a noise coming somewhere from the front of the bike.

Are these batteries chargeable at all.

Can these type of batteries undergo a trickle charge if having not been used for awhile.

of course you can charge bike batteries. If when you press the starter you get a click or slow engine turning then its the battery. Instruments will probably blanc out as well due to lack of power. If you don't get anything its the switch/button.

I've put the battery on charge but it is not flat flat, when i turn the ignition on, there is no ABS check like it should do, LCD displays as normal, no red warning triangles in fact no bugger all:blagblah

i can confirm that with kill switch off, you get the time and odo but no triangles or fault checking

switch is duff somehow

You right, switch was stuffed and they replacing it, so much for them telling me that they had taken it for a test ride before delivering to me :banghead:
