Well lads. A quick up date on the clutch in the bike.

I got a few good offers prices for the job but my mate convinced me he could do the job so i decided to get my hands dirty and give him a hand doing it.

We stripped it done and removed the clutch to find that the crank shaft seal inner and outer had failed. There was oil all over the friction plate.

Had to order th inner seal from Joe Duffy today so we be finishing the job on Friday.

Heres a few pics.

Best of luck with the repairs Eric......................

I think you'll need it cause your mate is reading the R1200GS workshop manual:eek::eek:

Interesting, it was an 1150 manual when I lent it to Eric! You should go to speck-savers Ravenbyrne:D

Hope it goes well for you Eric and like I said, I'm hoping for a few new oily thumb prints on it...gives it an air of authenticity:thumb

The thumb prints are there alight. Ha ha. Clutch housing and all parts where covered in dirty oil.

Got the inner and outter crank seals fitted yesterday evening and fitted the new Clutch etc. Have to say although the two manuals (Haynes and BMW work shop manual) I'm using both said to tighten the five fly wheel bolts to 40 NM and then 32 degrees of turn after that I was worried I'd snap a bolt but I did it and all is good.

I also replace the seal on the gear box will I had access to it. Due to the misses wanting a curry while watch big brother wrk had to stop for the night.

I hope to finish the job today.

The weathers good for the next few days, so hopefully it goes well and you get out for a spin:beerjug:

Well lads. I had her on the road today for the first time in over a week.

Jobs that we did. Full clutch replacemeant with inner and outer crank shaft seals replaced too and while we had it open I did the gear box seal to.

Replace the gear box oil. Replace the final drive oil. Replace all washers.

Changed the rear brake pads.

Replaced the O rings on the Throttle bodys to the air box. Replace bleed nipple on rear caliper.

Going to run it for a week or so and replace all oils again as the oils we removed where black.

Last thing we did was balance the throttle bodys.

Delighted with how its running. Fingers crossed thats the end of the bad luck for a long time to come and I can enjoy it to it's best.

Money spent on the whole job, €370 (€270 parts, €100 or the help of my mechanic friend)

I'd Like to say a big thanks to Comfy Old Boots for the loan of his Haynes Manual with out this we would have been lost. Loads more oil stains on it for you.

I have learned so much about mybike in doing most of the work myself but I was shown how to do it and all the way by my good friend Phil. :thumb

Thanks Lads,

Really is great to have it back. Spent the whole day on it today, seen the good weather this morning so brought the bike to work. Put in for a half days annual and headed for Kilbride, Sally Gap and Glendaloug, Had chips and a burger then back to Dublin in time to pick the little fella up. Loved every minute of it. Here two pics I took. Nothing like a good test ride to make sure all the work has worked.
