After fitting a rebuilt starter motor (with thanks to Spa1403 for supplying the parts) I am having severe tantrums because the Jump Post will not fit through the starter cover hole because the nut on the bracket, that attaches to the solenoid, will not align correctly. :( I have tried numerous positionings and confirmed that it should be placed as shown in here:

and here:

http://www.bmrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2997.

The bracketed nut is about 7mm too high and I cannot deform the cover sufficiently to install the post and get the cover to sit correctly.

I have also found that there is a bit of freeplay when mounting the starter motor: It's possible to pivot the motor assy around its dowel before closing off its two fastening bolts. This didn't help and am concerned that this freeplay will not allow the pinion to engage the starter gear sufficiently.

So, does the plastic cover reshape itself with hot and cold cycles or do I need to get the cutting tools out and make it offer itself up correctly?

I'm now drinking whiskey from the bottle after the glass I was using proved to be too small. :jager

It's not the end of the world but, it is a motorcycle and will have a battery failure sooner or later.

Are you sure you have part no 7 the correct way? When I installed my jump start post, part 7 fitted differently to the way the original came off.

Almost Certainly.

Thanks Joe,

It's fitted just as shown on those other sites and, I can't see it going any other way. It just looks right but the cover will not align?
