Going to use Loctite 480 or JB weld to re-glue those magnets...
My question is, should the 2 attracting / repelling magnets be facing one another in the housing, or am i wrong?

I have a couple of spare starter bodies with magnets still attached. Were you to become a site-sponsor, you could send me your address via PM and I'd happily pop one in the post to you, gratis. ;)

indeed..oh and subscribed! :aidan

Going to the isle of Man in 2 weeks time, so this will be VERY helpfull!!
No problem. What is the plastic bit that you refer to in your PM, I can probably let you have a replacement for that too, as long as I know what you need.

Well, i managed to fix my old starter while i was waiting for Mike's parts in the post. I used Unibond, which seemed to work for a week or so, but today, after a 80 mile spin, got home, tried to start it again, and tick, nothing. tried again, tick noise, but nothing, not turning over at all. Some smoke even came out from the starter area...NOT good!

Took everything apart again, and one of the magnet i had glued was loose again, and everything was pretty much stuck. Took Mike's part which i received on Friday, and put it together again, back on the bike. But its still not starting, starter is engaging, engine is turning over, but not starting.

Got spark, and as far as i can see fuses are fine. Could i have fried the starter solenoid? Would it engage if solenoid was toast? Could it be starter relay...?

I'm at a loss here, can't figure it out...:(

take the plastics off, remove the starter, repair the wire leading down to the sidestand cutout switch, and reassemble.. simples :D edit oops may not have read original post properly :P can't remember if starter turns over if sidestand wire cut, but it is in right place to be cut by the motor on its way into the housing

sidestand wire is fine...
Still thinking i have a toasted solenoid...anyone can confirm if starter would still engage and turn even with a fecked solenoid. and would that prevent the engine to fire up?

appreciate any help :thumb2

Out of curiosity... it doesn't hurt to wiggle your ignition wiring around a bit there the key barrel ends.... I had the same symptoms and it ended up being a really easy fix! It sounded like my start was fecked so I was pleased with it was only 56 quid to fix!
